Depends on your connection in your house. Modem being the cheapest in the short term.
Modem: Modem adaptor, phone cable.
Broadband: Broadband adaptor, ethernet cable. (if you don't have one, a hub/switch/network card would be better than direct connection)
Modem and BBAs are the same price, as are most of the cables. However, if you have broadband, it would be wise to get a router or network card because if you don't, you'll only be able to go on the internet with your gamecube or your pc, not at the same time.
HL (hunter's lisence) is £5.99 a month last time I looked, but you get the first month free. I'd wait until exam's finish if I were you. You'd get addicted to it
Oh. And if you wanted to talk online, you should get a keyboard. In fact, I'd says it's a mandatory item if you go online. That would cost £20 for the cheap keyboard which has some problems, but is far better than nothing.
In total with keyboard, I'd guess £50 without extra HL time.
