The film was called Lovers in its country of origin!?! I can see why they changed the title - some studio exec probably said "Hey, lets ditch the name and get one like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - that'll fill up the multiplexs quicker" - the basics of marketing 101 (sic).
Yep - House of Flying Daggers is on my list of movies to watch - I had to watch Lemony Snickets and the Incrdibles yesterday (my daughter is way too young for a 15) which were both good movies.
Dubbing vs Subbing: a friend of mine was a serious Akira fan when Manga first reared its head in the UK some 15 years ago. He had the dubbed and subbed versions of the video - and showed me how the dubbing had trashed the movie by changing the dialogue of 1 scene. On a personal level, I've seen so many subbed movies now that I'm used to it - I see the whole picture of the movie even when reading, but, like understanding the growling of a Death Metal lead singer in a band like Deicide, it takes practice. I actually prefer subbed foreign movies to the usual USA box office fluff. The foreign movies always seem to get away with more controversial images and stories than our Iraqi loving friends from accross the pond.
