It's been a while, but here's my suggested strategy:
First just get him with quick 2-3 hit combos after evading his dash attacks. (Using dodge roll is the easiest way, but you can also jump over him.)
After you take his life bar down far enough he starts doing his "Sin and Punishment" attack. This is easily the cheapest move I've seen in a boss fight due to the fact that he ramdomly teleports around the ring and you have about 3 seconds to hit him or else your HP and MP are reduced to one. 99% of the time if this hits you and you're close to him then he'll quickly finish you off by immediately dashing into you. If you can't figure out how to hit him fast enough then either have some Elixirs on your shortcut menu, or some ethers and hope that you can evade him long enough to use it and cast cure. This is easily the hardest section of the fight.
After taking him down to his last 4 or 5 lifebars he'll back off and cast meteor which fills the whole ring with explosions making it hard to dodge and hard to keep track of where he'll strike from next. The same strategy applies to this stage as well as the first. By using dodge roll at the perfect time you avoid all damage.
By the time you get him down to the last three lifebars he'll begin wildly flipping around, swinging his sword and teleporting. As long as you keep calm and dodge at the right time, then you'll be able to counter-hit him after everytime he misses a slash. Take note that you'll only be able to hit him once or maybe if you're really quick then twice. So don't even waste your time trying to do a three-hit combo because it will just leave you open and vulnerable. Hope this helps you out and just stay calm and keep trying!
