After going on ruins for the first time time about a 3 days ago in normal (ive now finished it in hard), ive found shots to be extremly useful. They can hold back many monsters at once.
I think mechguns are good at causing lots of damage, but you usually have to get very close, and after you fire them the reaction time is very slow so you'll usulally find yourself being smacked in the head whilst your still holding your guns in the air.
I still think the rifles the best type (although now i have a beam, and all my weapons cept for my cannon are of the same level).
Err... when did you find your first special ranger weapon? Ive found about 4 special items so far and theyve all been hunter weapons, and one piece of armour (2 DB's sabres, 1 Brionac and Secret Gear).
