That's a presumption though. And those words can be twisted around. It could mean:
1) as you stated, every newman is completely different in terms of lifespan
2) Newmans are so new,(in PSO) no one has studied their life span to get an average
or
3) They live so long,or perhaps better yet, always appear young so no one can determine how old they are.
