They learn how to do it with "noob" devices such as "AR", I know how to do more advanced hacking on the internet itself, but I don't because I know it won't impress anyone, and that it isn't an honourable task, (I learnt it from my former military days, and from school buddies).
These people try to earn respect through fear, intimidation, and extortionism, and honestly think that what people think about you on the internet is worth a sheep's sh*t.
Hacking, like programming is easier than most people think, it isn't just for the spotty teenager sitting along in his room trying to hack the Pentagon anymore, anyone can do it if they have the right stuff, and knowledge, though when these guys use AR they ain't doing the hacking, the AR is, they're not hackers, they're stupid hacker wannabe's.
There is a way to wake Sega up though, I've found confirmed that the Trades Description Act even applies online, as the product we are using requires funding from us, and they're not providing a service as stated by the actions they would take against these individuals, within their own Terms of Service, that's why these people are so much like Sega, and Sega secretly love them, both of them are breaking the TOS, and both of them can't be bothered to work to acheive anything.
