"So your awake, didn't think you would be up for another day or two." Kangae winced, it felt like his body was being torched while he lay upon a bed of needles. Yet after a time he dared to open his eyes, and was relieved to find that they did not burn upon doing so. His gaze met that of a nurse, who had previously checked his vitals an had seen that his heart rate had increased. After another moment or two, he could move his limbs again, and eventually the nurse helped him into a sitting position. He opened his mouth to ask a question, but the female handed him a glass of water, knowing how dehydrated he must be after an adrenaline rush of the magnitude he experienced in the school. The Newman merely nodded his thanks and accepted the glass, the liquid inside helped calm his nerves somewhat, though he still trembled slightly. After draining the cup of its contents, he finally managed to speak,
"How did I.." The FOnewm's voice trailed off, his mind recoiling from the events that had occurred the previous day.
"We honestly can't answer that, no one that was apparently attacked by the aliens survived. So your case is still somewhat of a mystery to us, perhaps if there is anything you can clarify for us maybe we can-"
"No.." He stood up gingerly, waving off the protests of the pink clad nurse. Somehow, the word alien didn't really apply to these creatures, and her saying it that way annoyed him. She wasn't there, she doesn't know that they're nothing more than killers..
"I don't remember, I just know that it was like being dragged down a well. See some light at the top but at the bottom you've got no hope." He coughed, his lungs and muscles were still sore. The nurse manage to coax him to lay down again, and went off to fetch another glass of water. He watched her retreating figure for a moment, and then closed his eyes. Neuri has an ass like that, though this gal's face leaves much to be desired.. He smiled grimly to himself, that was always the catch, wasn't it? Again his ears twitched, and as if this was a signal for pain, images of the screaming students and the black spider filled his mind. He grit his teeth as the ache spread like a wave from his head through out the rest of him, pressing both palms against both temples in a vain attempt to sooth the agony, something he had never seen before passed across his vision. An orb, a huge, white sphere, crawling with the mechanical monstrosities he encountered. Accompanying this image was an unbearable feeling, of all the emotions he had ever felt before. Hatred for the things coursed through him, love for them, sadness for them.. Confused, Kangae moaned and turned over, pressing his head against the plush pillow. Nothing he did would stop the vision, nothing would stop how he felt, he felt helpless. Smooth yet firm hands turned him in the direction of the ceiling again, while the glass returned to his lips and some more water was poured into his mouth, though this time he could tell medicinal additives were in play, for it tasted and smelled somewhat bitter. He sat up and pushed her away, spitting out the water that would have lulled him to sleep. The hospital robe he was dressed in was a bit big, making him look somewhat smaller than he was already, yet somehow with his voice he was able to portray a much more bold attitude than he would have under normal circumstances.
"Did anyone else besides me make it out alive?" The nurse nodded, still surprised that the first glass of herbal treated water hadn't done its job. This is what she got for working with newman patients.
"Yes, just one, with a story much like yours, I believe."
"And what about the killers?"
"The militia came in with some strange weapons, I believe they had to freeze and then smash them to thoroughly destroy the aliens." Kangae shook his head, there went that 'alien' word again. The images now faded away, all they left behind was anger and guilt in their wake. The newman was ashamed of himself, running like that, falling as he had, and yet miraculously survive while nearly all the others had died.. For this he was angry, for this a hatred welled up inside of him. Taking another look at his current garb, he spoke again.
"Where are my clothes?" The nurse pointed to a pile or articles in an adjacent chair after hearing this,
"Your parents passed by here, as did your teacher.. Miss Jibun was it? Well, she wanted you to pay a visit to her home as soon as you felt that strength had returned to you. Though I don-"
"Thanks" He said quickly, cutting her off and taking a card that the nurse had been given with his teacher's address written down upon it. They had both realized that it would be breaking the rules to travel the streets at a time like this. Citizens had been ordered to stock up on what provisions they could, and then hole up in their homes. Because of the school massacre, many followed these commands obligingly. After dressing he left the hospital as quickly as he could, something about that place just gave him the creeps. Nothing but a place for the dead and the dying, I surely don't belong there.

The three of them sat around the lounge room table, quietly, two figures nursing cups of coffee while the other merely studied them and the immediate area, since he had never been there before. Kangae had been granted entrance to the home of Ms. Jibun by the teacher herself. The Newman was taken aback at seeing his, at times, most hated teacher dressed in casual attire and with a smile on her face. She welcomed him in and led him into the parlor, outside the artificial night time sky was in full swing, brilliant stars and moons shone, providing soft light for those below. Though only an illusion of what the citizens left behind, it still gave the people a serene peace. Where he was seated at was comfortably furnished with ample supply of soft, beige couches and padded wicker chairs, from the ceiling hung plants to liven the place up a bit, but with the rather dull color scheme things still seemed somewhat plain. He had politely refused refreshments of any kind, and somehow managed to keep his balance when sitting on the fluff filled end of his FOnewm overcoat on an overly squishy cushion. His own appearance, while somewhat regal in the surprisingly fitting get up he was in, must have been disarrayed. Fine, dark red hair spilled out everywhere from over the head band, while his face must have portrayed a good deal of tiredness for he saw some trace of pity in his teacher's eyes. His shoulders sagged as he placed his head in his hands, like a tremendous weight in his chest, it dragged his spirit down. A slight tension filled the air, the third figure, someone he recognized from seeing her around the hunters academy a few times, examined him like one would an intruder in their home. In truth, he was, but upon invitation. So this is the survivor.. sure looks bad-ass enough. The Newman thought, faintly wistful. Large, black baggy clothes seemed to be her preference, her hair was dark like a raven's plume, and odd, unnatural orange eyes met his from time to time. Despite her openly discomforting aura, she had quite the tempting figure. Glancing back and forth between the two, he could tell that they were mother and daughter, though finally it struck him. The hunter in training had newman ears, though she wasn't quite of the smaller build most of them were. In truth, she still stood a good head taller than he. This opened a new interest in the family before him.. Was the father.. a Newman? Like himself?
"Since it looks like no one is in the mood for idle chat, I'll get to the point of bringing you here." Ms. Jibun said, placing down her mug on a small plate and then set this on the glass table they were seated around. Kangae looked up from his palms, but said nothing to acknowledge her statement.
"You two are the only survivors of those that were on campus, I hoped that you would both shed some light on the matter, and perhaps both of you did something in common to spare your lives." Nodding her head, the teacher's daughter was the first to respond.
"I'll go first.." She paused to look into his eyes for a period of time, as if trying to find some answer within them. Then the half-newman continued,
"I was with the crowd of students when the thing came through the roof. It looked like a giant, black spider, it stepped forward a few paces, and then spewed out this giant sphere of gelatin. The sphere split into smaller ones, with glowing red dots that swam around in their middle. And well, we ran, after that there was no point in running, since they were obviously much faster than any of us, a few of the students, myself included, turned around in an attempt to fight them." She took a breather for a beat, while the other two figures waited patiently for her to go on.
"Fire didn't work, and lighting seemed pointless, ice spells were slow, and easily avoided. My HUnewearl training meant I knew a few techniques, and since I had no weapon there was little choice to what I could do. We, as the defenders, were the first to be attacked. Thanks to some more extensive field testing you put me through, mother, I wasn't too paralyzed to try to stop the thing from hitting me. I managed to pull off I GIbarta spell and freeze it mid flight, this saved my life, I presume. The others hadn't been so fortunate, and were being devoured in the blink of an eye. The other blobs had leapt over us and were attacking the other students, who couldn't even put up a fight."
"And the night staff?" Asked her mother,
"Janitors and a few security guards, unprofessional and just as helpless." Her daughter stated matter-of-factly.
"I see, please continue Jennifer." Sighing, the younger female complied.
"I was forced to run, since now they were on my trail. Up ahead of me a saw another blob fall out of the spider, this one was odd. It had a yellow orb in it, and seemed to wander around aimlessly. Then it took off down the hall in the opposite direction from me. After that another one dropped down, also a yellow, deranged creature. This one targeted me, it leapt, and caught me." She shrugged,
"And after that I passed out, and woke up in the hospital." Jennifer paused, looking at her mothers impassive face, and then the Newman's troubled one. Her mother would have spoken, but was interrupted.
"I was.. a coward." Kangae spoke, his voice vibrating with choked emotion. Hair spilled over his eyes as a sweat drop streaked down the side his face. The HUnewearl shivered, something about his green eyes carried a depth, and the passion that developed as the words came from him startled her.
"I too, was attacked by one of the yellow eyed creatures. I ran as soon as I saw your attacks fail, I ran but still they came. defending myself didn't seem like an option, I just ran until I couldn't run any more. Then I tried to hide from it, into one of the bathrooms. A closed door wouldn't stop it, the thing just oozed underneath and crept up my leg, it dragged me down and it should have consumed me right then and there-"
"You were only acting as any would, Kangae." Ms. Jibun said sternly, as if it were supposed to make the situation any better. He eyed her for a moment, and she withdrew into silence.
"Schools and training halls are one thing, but this was completely different. I was helpless.. Not because I don't know my spells, or my drills.. I always fought the simulation battles by feel. And here, I couldn't feel anything, nothing but fear. I-" He choked for a moment, the pressure proving to overwhelming to speak. His shoulders slumped lower and he ran his fingers through his hair and let the palm rest on his forehead.
"I should have died a coward's death back there. I want, I need a second chance to walk down that hallway and perhaps save a few lives. But now its over, they're gone, and here we are, alive, and clueless."
"Don't be too sure of that." His teacher now stood, speaking in earnest, though her voice was grave.
"More of them are on their way, the public haven't been notified, but they expect me to help fight these things. The officials think that you two hold some key to this, and now I'm sure of it. Somehow those two yellow variations of the creatures saved your lives, instead of taking them away. Scientists, of course, wish to study you, but I and your parents wont have that. " Kangae now rose as well, his own voice blazing.
"They would actually let someone that hasn't completed their hunter training do something like this?" His teacher shrugged,
"It can be arranged, you would be working alongside some other hunters as well, you know. The officials don't give much of a care as long as the public doesn't hear that we've got children going up against these things." They conversed a little bit more, and a few things were decided. First of all, he couldn't go home, undoubtedly his parents would have protests against his choice to fight the creaturesl; He was to stay with Ms. Jibun, who insisted he should simply call her Martha since they were no longer in the classroom, and her daughter. Also, before they were going to see any battle field, she would make sure that they were ready. With that settled, he was given blankets and a pillow, then told to get some rest. With that his teacher left him, and before Jennifer could also disappear upstairs, he managed to get out one last question.
"You saw them too, didn't you?"
"I have no idea what your talking about.." She replied, shaking her head.
The orb, the huge nest of these things, you didn't see it?"
"No, now get some rest. Also, the bathroom is just down the hallway there, if I'm going to be stuck working with you, at least you could do me the favor of taking a shower."

Kangae sighed, and let the sleeping materials in his hands drop onto one of the couches. Then why had he seen it? Why was he constantly suffering because of it? Just achieving nothing but burrowing deeper into confusion, he decided to take his host's advice. Entering a white washed bathroom felt familiar, though the various pictures of family members, not his, made him feel even more forlorn. Stripping down and entering the shower stall, he let the hot water caress his weary body. Such simple things seemed to always take his mind off the present, but not this time.. He closed his eyes and let the streams break over his face, and immediately he opened them again. It was there, in his mind, the white orb, the nest, the black spiders, the screams.. It was all gathered together in a swirling vortex, slowly but surely ripping away at his sanity. Helpless to prevent it, the newman merely hung his head, watching separate trickles of water flow down the long strands of hair that fell past his face. Droplets dripped down towards the crystalline surface of thousands beating against the floor. Spray from it hitting his body collected on the walls, forming a little field of moisture, which the occasional part condensed and ran down to the ground, leaving in its wake a new pattern which more would travel and depart from. The FOnewm wiped an eye, and then paused mid action. The water getting into his eyes wasn't from the shower, he was crying.
He dried off and wrapped the towel around his waist, since he didn't have any clothes to change into he would just have to clean the ones he had with him. Glancing at it, he remembered the instructions that had come with the outfit. Hand wash only, and let drip dry.
"Great.. just damn it all to hell why don't you." He muttered to himself, and set to work at scrubbing his garments after locating some soap with which he could do so with. When he had finished and set it up to dry, Kangae went back and let himself fall upon the couch. He stared at the ceiling for a while before drawing the blankets about him, and closed his eyes for the second time in the past three hours. Yet again, the vivid nightmares that seemed to be lurking behind every corner in his mind forced him to open them again. The newman cursed, this surely would be the death of him.
Kangae could feel them, in his mind, in his body.. He could feel them out there,
He could feel them coming..

Well, there have been a few changes to the plan. first of all, chapters will only be about 10-15 pages each, but there will be a lot more of them. For those of you not used to this type of length, I suggest you find some other fiction to read
I will take breaks inbetween writing chapters, but because of the decreased length, I won't be so concerned about stretching ideas out as much as possible, so they should be getting to you in a relatively timely manner ^_^
thats all for now, C&C is always welcome, and thanks for reading.
as for me..
well, time for sleep

wow, the level of your syntax is really amazing. In points of large action, you use your sentence structure perfectly, and your diction...very rich selection of words. You should've been in my A.P English Literature course this year, our teacher would've loved your writing. I see it will little flaws in all honesty (other than a mistake, you meant to put and but you put an, no big deal at all) so I can't really offer any criticizism, it is a gripping story and if all novels were written this way, I'd be turned into a reader for sure.

Glad to see I've made an impact ^_^
Yes, sometimes when I'm writing into the late hours, words tend to get swapped. And I thank you for your honest opinion.
sadly, I have not yet had the inspiration for chapter 2, but I should begin writing it soon.

man horror stories try to have suspense but generally fail miserably, this story has promise but we'll see how it turns out...
