BB vs v3
#41
Even with those stats, the weapon is stronger on v3. You have not seen the stats of the monsters on v2, believe me...

NetNomad Wrote:It only takes a couple ridiculously overpowered weapons to be, to use your words, "ten times stronger"
I used these words talking about Psycho Wand, a v3 item >_>

Someone just got served.

And to be specific, there is no EpIV weapon which is, on its own, ten times stronger than the best equivalent in v3, most are just a version of the item with real stats, an actually useful special and usable by more classes.

It's funny that when people had only v3, they were vehemently complaining about the fact that 80% of the weapons in PSO are useless and/or joke weapons, with crappy bonuses or crappy special attacks, then when ST finally decides to listen and make actually useful weapons, the same whiners are complaining again.

Excalibur and Daylight Scar are not "ridiculously overpowered", they are more powerful and efficient, without a doubt, but they don't make the game noticeably easier; easy areas remain easy, hard areas remain hard.

To someone like me, taking away difficulty from a game is ruining its fun, I can assure you EpIV items only add to the fun of the game.

You used those words in reference to all your characters, though. Implying that the others use some or all of BB's crazy-power weapons.

People were complaining about that, most likely, because they were too busy hunting a Zanba with hit% and failing. 'Twas more about the fact that they couldn't obtain v3's ubers than the nonexistance of said ubers. ;[

I'll give you the fact that, since most of the BB weapons have good specials, it allows a player to be really powerful and somewhat stylish at the same time by giving them more choices. But IMO the game would've been more balanced without sacrificial specials, particularly on nonrares which would make many people prefer nonrares with hit to something with actual style (and no, I'm not against sacrificial specials themselves; I have berserkers, but I use them with a LOT of restraint).

Same here... except I tend to like to use mid-range-power weapons and play in the easy and medium-hard areas. Why? Because it gives me more weapon variety. There's still a difficulty factor there... it just doesn't involve taking uber weapons into PW4 (which is why I don't touch PW4). What annoys me is when people who ARE equipped for quests like PW4 feel the need to use that same equipment to whorish levels in easy areas, sometimes at the expense of fun/exp for people who want to use things that aren't as freakishly powerful (because they don't have the same qualm with anti-difficulty as you or I do).

*cough*

I hear you there -_-;

I usually quit a game when people use overpowered equipment compared to the area we are in.

Daylight Scar on a Bartle is stupid, and not fun in any way.

Eh, I thought that many (not all) ep4 rares were at least slightly overpowered, but the problem isn't so much that they are so powerful, it's more that everyone seems to use them at the expense of any of the infinitely more interesting ep1/2 rares.

Sure, some things like, say, Red Sword, Froozer, S-Ranks (no ep4 S-Ranks as there is no ep4 c-mode) will never go out of style - although I use the word lightly for the ugly as sin Red Sword >_>

But I digress. When playing BB, and especially after the new dropchart changes, it seemed to me that everyone used Daylight Scar/Excalibur/Heaven Striker (ok, I used DS and HS - but the DS was a gift and the HS was found on the old dropcharts when it was a Kondrieu drop so I felt justified), I sorta preferred more unique and interesting equips, but it's not always easy to find ep1 and 2 games on BB in which to hunt those drops, 9/10 open games always seemed to be lol desert spam.

Oh, and Kef, I used HS in PW#4, it's just very situational, but if you can get into a place where you can't be touched by an attack it's pretty damn good. Of course I wouldn't recommend using it on 10F of either Tower Tongue

For me, seeing a Booma die before it even raises it's arms and shouts is fun. That's just me though. ;p

NetNomad Wrote:If you can convince WN that sacrificing power for style is in any way fun, I'll give you a medal. Nay, a thousand medals. With diamonds in them.
It's all opinion. You know I don't use special decorations.

NetNomad Wrote:And I swear, I'm going to get Needles with alternate and non-uber-threatening specials. Just to spite all of you. ;[
Rated worst to best:
1) TP Regen - only on RAdroids... Edit: Spirit too. How could I be so dumb to forget that one! Tongue
2) Tempest - damage cancel, won't shock in Ultimate, not very effective
3) Burning
4) HP Regen
5) Jellen - has some use use Towers with a team of all droids or Ramars... maybe
Knock yourself out, since you certainly won't be knocking any enemies.

Kefka Wrote:Demon's Needle is a weapon for sissies.
Completely true, but it is effective. It's really good at thinning crows in Ruins/Seabed before you come in with a Zerk Needle.

My PW4 equipment would suck in any other part of the game.

The only place where it MAY be impossible to remain untouched is PW4:WT:F10... and only for the spawns after the 4 Delbiters.

In other news... I realized today, a Vise matches my Racast pretty nicely. His costume is blue and white, and he uses an Electro Frame. The Vise is blue and purple. My Vise has 40h. My Racast is lv133. He has max ATA along with S-Parts, and over 1050 ATP. Toaster Mage is no where near a "support FO." PW3 is fun. Big Grin

The reason I use lots of EpIV weapons, Mewn, is because I have used almost all v3 weapons for 7700 hours on Gamecube.

If there wasn't something new to try out for me in BB, I would have quit ages ago.

Also, I find some EpIV items really, really, really fun, namely V501/V502, Crimson Coat, Lieutenant Mantle and Excalibur.

Well, some of them are interesting, Lieutenant Mantle, Crimson Coat and V501 did interest me, I'll admit. I just prefer the ep1/2 equips for some reason. Personal preference, I guess. I don't have the same amount of playtime you do, Kef, so I can see why you might be bored with the Ep1/2 items.

I've never used an Excalibur. I have never really *needed* to. I won't make assumptions about it, but even though Excalibur is better I would still rather have a Lavis Cannon (purely for looks).

For me, MKB/Demo Comet/Meteor Cudgel always seemed more interesting than Vivienne. I found Yas2k and Ruby Bullet more interesting to use than Heaven Striker, even though HS was part of my standard equips. I did like Rage de Feu (again part of my standard equips) though again, I personally found Yas9k and Red Mechgun more interesting to use.

I'll admit that I approached Episode IV with the 'ooh new toy' attitude, and perhaps the fact that it is exclusive to BB is part of it's appeal to the community there. When I realized that EpIV is just horribly rushed (3 areas? 1 boss with three versions? Monsters shared between all three areas?) it quickly became my least favourite episode; but that's another topic altogether.

Episode 2 was a horrible rip of Episode 1 in terms of enemies

Yeah, but I do like temple and SS... and for the same enemies, they certainly put them together in a more annoying way than they did in ep1. Tongue

And the CCA and Seabed enemies are different from each other, and each have a different boss. In terms of non-rushedness, Ep2 > Ep4.

Maybe, but consider the following points:

- Only two of Episode 2's areas 'recycle' Episode I monsters, and although CCA (in before Kef corrects me with GDV Tongue) and Seabed share monsters with Towers, Towers has it's own unique enemies and miniboss, while also taking only the most powerful enemies (CCA minibosses, Delbiters).
- Crater Interior uses exactly the same monsters as Crater, with exactly the same stats (shared monsters are more powerful in Desert). Some enemies, namely Sand Rappy, Zu, Satellite Lizard and Yowie appear in all three areas.
- VR Temple and VR Spaceship are interesting levels, and I quite like the mix of the enemies as well as the new settings. Fighting Ob Lilies is a little bit different in Temple to fighting them in Caves, for example, due to the different rooms in Temple compared to Caves. In Spaceship you may have to deal with Baranz and Delsabers together.
- Crater is a decent level, but Crater Interior and Desert are crap. Well, Desert 3 is ok, but I hate 1 and especially 2.
- Temple and Spaceship have bosses, albeit remixed (Gol Dragon is still awesome though). Crater and Crater Interior do not have bosses. The only boss is in Desert, and while he has three forms it's still the same boss, with a different skin and slightly different stats. Oh and it's nowhere near as good as Falz and Flow.

Also I wasn't just complaining about the monster recycling, but also just the general fact that EpIV seems like a rushed cash-cow for ST.

Consider that two areas have no boss, that the storyline is completely nonsensical (you can make sense of ep1 and 2, but ep4 really does make no sense to me >_>), that both of the dropcharts that have been used by ST are poorly designed, and that some of the enemies use AI from ep1 and 2 (Bootas are Boomas with the ability to dash and throw fireballs, Dorphons are Delbiters without the Megid, Astarks are Hildebears with Shifta and the ability to rapidly punch... Rappies I'll let slide as they're a mascot for the game and the series in general, heh).

Don't get me wrong, ep4 gets a few things right, and I have enjoyed playing there sometimes. There's some interesting enemies like Zu and Gorans, and some nice items (most of which haven't been released on US BB, sadly). I just think it is just poorly thought-out and executed. While ep2 may recycle enemies it does it better, and the episode is better as a whole anyway.
