Sony PSP VS Nintendo DS
#81
You keep saying that it is flopped, but until they stop selling units, and new games, then what you are saying is irrelevant. Yes they aren't doing as well as Sony and Microsoft[not so sure about this one, XD] they are obviously still making some sort of profit, meaning its not a flop. People thought the N64 was going to die sooner than it did, but it lasted another 2-3 years after this proclamation. So don't give me this crap about it being a flop until it actually turns over and flops.

The DS is the same way it just started, and already people like you claim its going to flop. Yes, it hasn't had the most spectacular start, but there are plently of new titles in the work for it. So people need to be more patient, and stop go blowing off nonsense from their mouth until the real line up is out.

*Edit: Another little fact, guess what saved the N64 from flopping early? Answer: Zelda. Another question, what game is soon to be released on the cube? That's right, Zelda. History may repeat itself once again.

But Nintendo is debt ever since N64 because they where dumb and said hey lets not use CDs even though they are cheaper, easy to use and hold more information. They got killed becasue of it when PS1 came out every one was like N64 who? Look now snice Nintendo is still being stupid they are losing alot of game makers, They Lost RARE which was a big hit and now there gonna ripe you off again with revolutions. On revolutions there gonna make you pay for 10 year old games that you have played be for and they suck. So it's ovious that nintendo is only out for money because they make bad choices.

Just because I stuck up for Nintendo, it doesn't make me a "fanboy". I play all systems and don't prefer one system over another, and right now like I said, both the DS and PSP suck. So those "you" s you keep using can switch to "whomever it may concern".

By the way, don't use the Rare thing. It's an horrible example. They only recently made a decent title since the switch to the XBOX. Plus, people don't have to get the old school nintendo games, they choose to thus proving that Nintendo in fact does know exactly what it is doing. It appears people only think Nintendo makes rehashes of old games only now. Yes they use old franchises, but they make brand new titles. If you don't want one of their re-makes, simply don't buy it. Just because a game doesn't have noticeable violence [ie. blood and gore], doesn't mean its for a five year old. Think about it most five year olds can't even beat these video games, so it isn't completely aimed at them. Saying an eight or ten year old would be more reasonable.

Edit: By the way, FYI, the XBOX was, or still is in debt from every XBOX made, Nintendo wasn't that bad.

I'm only on the third page of this thread and i HAVE to reply now.

I will agree that Nintendo has very bad timing. They release a handheld without enough games to go with the launch. The games i got for DS have entertained me for a long time and still are. Mini games are fun and all and can entertain for hours (one thing i rent for parties is Wario Ware for when some people want to play video games). DS has a microphone but its not used yet to my knowldge. God imagine how cool that could be? Sure DS has a smaller screen... but its got TWO of them. Personally i think the aspect of two screens can make gameplay a bit more interesting. The Metroid Prime hunters thing... i learned the controls perfectly and can score an extremely high score in the demo. About battery life. Well 20 hours of good gameplay is alot better than 6 hours of okay to not so good gameplay on a PSP. I mean sports games dont belong on a handheld. Yes DS has some but thank god not many. I mean PSP and RPG's "omg you jsut got far in that hard to beat game! your only 12hp from beating the game! and BAM! POWER DRAIN NO MORE ENERGY!" see how that could be a problem? The online part of DS isnt taking it too far either. God knows Nintendo got on their feet and made some online gameplay. The DS (as i have noticed) has been marketed toward younger children (in the states atleast) and this is a good thing for nintendo. "Get 'em young." i believe is the quote. They get loyal players with an easy to play handheld and they are going stick with nintedo as they get older. PSP is gonna have some more difficult games on it and i think the PSP is for more hardcore gamers who are into more than playing a good game for a while of good entertainment. PSP's got a huge screen. O boy i love big screens. *sarcastic*means harder to fit into my pocket. O boy! Movies on a PSP... when im gonna watch a movie i think i'll turn on my TV or go to the theatre. You can argue a movie for traveling but hey, I'd rather play a game than watch a movie while traveling. More interactive ya know? Oh and dont forget that MP3 player. Seeing the price difference in PSP and DS you could go get a small Nomad MP3 player and still save money when you buy a DS over the PSP. As for Mixing it up? Go nintendo. Gives a bit of spice to the gameplay world rather than the dragged on normal gameplay of the world of video games. I think i'm done typing cause its 3 AM here. lol. i've got more probably so ill continue some other time.

Valero Wrote:That means non-kid graphics (like Wind Waker), non-kid overall design (like Pikmin), and not rated E.

I dont think many "kids" can play Wind Waker without getting help from big brother when he cant get off the first island. And Pikmin is most deffinately NOT a kids game. It was in the Wall Street Journal for God's sake because it was so hard. Pikmin goes along with Myst. Pikmin is not for kids but rather adults looking for a challenge who own a GC. i also argue that GC flopped. Au Contraire i know more people with a gamecube than a play station.

I'm not saying, nor is anyone else, that if a game doesn't have blood and gore that it's a kid game. However, when odd, musical noises are made whenever a sword hits something (Wind Waker), or the main character has a giant red nose (Pikmin), or there is no real plotline (Pokemon), that it's a kid game. Ever play any of the Need for Speed titles? No blood. No gore. All racing. No plumbers. That is an example of a non-kid game that has absolutely NO blood and gore.

Um.... THEY ALREADY GOT -YOU- YOUNG. Why would nintendo use these exact same tactics when we were kids, then use them again and say "Bah, the heck with you."? Either they have no clue what kind of tactics they are using and messed up by continuously giving us some obviously gay plumber over and over and over and over. Why would they hook the generation of the mid-80's and abandon them now? And even if there is a good reason, don't you feel betrayed by nintendo? Are you really so brainwashed that you can see this?

I'm sick and tired of all this propaganda bullsh*t from Nintendo. Because you are all fanboys and girls, or fanboys and girls in denial (*ahem* mdbrim2004), you defend a company not worth defending and throw away your real voice. There's a phrase for what nintendo has been doing by "Hooking'em young". It's called "Cigarette tactics". That's the same tactic the cigarette companies used during the 60's. Amazing how they model themselves after companies that benefit from people's deaths. Nintendo is a cult.

Back to the BS on hand, the DS. It sucks. OK? End of story. Wait about a month or two and the PSP will cost the same if not less than DS. Like Helios said, more than 6 hours at a time is NOT necesary. As for innovative and uniqueness about the DS... It's got a pen, ok? There are two screens. One for writing, and one for looking at. And like Helios also mentioned, DS was made for that sole gimmick, the stylus, yet only about 1/3 of the games use it. The only kind of games that have a future on DS are 1st persons and cursor games. And that's not enough of the gaming market to keep it alive, and even if it was, Nintendo hates 3rd party support. It's true. The president said it himself that he does not support 3rd party games targeted only at GC, unless it is made by Sega. This means there will be one 1st person shooter on DS, Metroid. That also means DS will flop.

Also, those who say just because it continues selling units and games that it has not flopped yet are ignorant. Dreamcast sold games and units to the very end, and even now they sell in collector's and game shops. Just because it sells doesn't mean it hasn't flopped.

EDIT: BTW, 5-year-old posting above me, you triple-posted. That's a no no in the big people world Big Grin

No one is saying that they play the DS for 20 hours straight. What they are trying to say, well at least I am, if you are on the road, and can't charge your system, the DS is obviously better for that. Not everone wants to put their system on a charge after each use, especially since rechargeable batteries supposedly have a certain amount of charges before they begin to wear down.

Ok you're saying I'm a Nintendo fanboy in denial, so if that's the case, you are obviously a Sony fanboy in denial too. Nintendo isn't dead, the Gamecube has not flopped. Xbox sold horribly in Japan, but does that mean it flopped, no. Apparently, you obviously don't know what you are talking about when it comes to system flops. Systems have their ups and downs, thats just how it works. For a good amount of time, the Gamecube was actually in second place, with the XBox being in last place. That's getting off-topic though.

The point is once again both systems suck atm, so you can't really say that its going to flop just because of its launch, not all systems have strong launches, but they still stay around for quite some time.

PSP is the better one there notone magazine out there that says DS is better then PSP unless there paid to say it. Theres not reason for this arguement. The PSP havd been voted th best new item of 2005 and I don't think DS has ever been called best of anything.

Helios makes a good point. The magazines, which are no fanboys, have voted and PSP kicks DS's ass by a long shot. As for being a long car trip, I would merely just leave my handheld on the charger while I play, which is an obvious thing to do. Who cares if the rechargeable batteries only have so many recharges? Not like you can't order replacements.

Now, to get a little off-topic, the Xbox sold badly in Japan because Japanese marketing made it seem like sh*t. Why is this? Because until Microsoft stepped in, Japan was the only place with video games, making Japan the Video Game capital of the world. But now one of the three best systems out is made in America. That means Japan is no longer in control, which they don't like. And even after that problem, there is the issue that Japan is also the fanboy and girl capital of the world, most of which Nintendo junkies, so of course GC will sell better there. And it was only for about half a month that GC was number 2. After that, it has never come close ever again. GC is DEAD. Do you know what that even means in the video games world? Production is being slowed down to eventually nothing, the GC exclusive titles will continuing showing us homosexual plumbers til the system is no longer produced, XB360 (Coming out this fall), XB and PS2 will become the three main systems (XB is only in there cause XB360 has no backward capatibility), and GC will become a rare collector's item like all of the Sega consoles and the NES.

And about the fanboy stuff, there's a diff between me and you. You call me a sony fanboy and I don't care. I call you one and you become upset. ^^
