Life
#1
I'm kind of depressed right now so I feel like talking about the meaning of life and what we are supposed to do on this earth.

I have been reading a lot of philosophy lately and I tend to agree with Aristotle in some aspects of what life should be. Aristotle states that a person is happiest when they are doing what they were meant to do. I agree with this entirely. But how do we find what we are supposed to do? Aristotle again states that it is a medium of things. We should try and find the median. I disagree with this part. The path to happiness I think is in the ability to take things in stride. As my grandmother used to say, "Don't sweat the small stuff. Everything is small stuff." I take this to mean that one should not worry about the bad but should not also dwell on the good. Therefore leading me into a paradox. My interpretation of this quote would tend to suggest that happiness is in the median.

Therefore the meaning of life is to find what makes us happy. If we ever do find this thing that makes us happy, we are meant to follow it to the end. For some this is knowledge. For others it is their interaction with other people. For me... well let's just say I definitely haven't found it yet.

Please post your thoughts and opinions here. I would like to start a reasonable philosophic debate but definitely not a flame war.

Well said, very well said. But dare I ask why you are feeling down?

I may have found what makes me happy: acting. Yet who knows what the true meaning of life is? Nobody. Possibly because everyone has their own purpose in life. The reason I am living at this moment, is to find my true love. Whomever she may be, I will find her. That is but one of my reasons for which I live, among others..to find ....her, my one and only.

To me there is no one true universal meaning of life it varies from person to person from era to era and from place to place. All you can really do is that which works for you and doesnt maliciously screw anyone else over in the process i wont ask why youre depressed zero132132 because it has nothing to do with the meaning of life or the theories of the answer to the question but perhaps a little more insight would help. For example do you want to know the meaning our our lives? Or just our general thoughts ?

the meaning of life.......I'd say is being cared about and caring about other people whether they are family/friends or your one true love...........anything about getting a career and such just doesn't seem befitting of the "true" meaning of life

and dz....dieing is something that you shouldn't wait for.......embrace life while you have the chance. You only have one chance to live.....and millions of ways to lose that chance.
