Broadband connection
#1
With the Broadband Modem on the Cube, can you use an Ethernet cable to a Comuter like with the X-Box. I'm desperate to go online but I can't afford the connection costs. Any Help please!

It is exactly the same as connecting with an Xbox. You just need either

a) A router
b) A network card with ethernet port.

Check if your computer has a Lan Card, then with some Ethernet RJ45 Crossover Cable, you can enable Internet Connection Sharing and have both your PC and Gamecube running off the same connection at the same time!

As for a router... theyre expensive things, about £80+ :O Basically it lets you divide your connection loads of times.

The best and easiest way to set it up, in my oppinion, is by using a Network Card with the Ethernet RJ45 Crossover cable. Just set Internet Connection Sharing up after the and you should be ok. I've only ever tried it this way, but I've heard its the easiest way to go around it.

Oh yeh and one other thing, make sure you get the right type of Ethernet Cable. Otherwise you'll run into the problem that I did Rolleyes

Thanks for that info, how do i find out if ive got a LAN card and will it mean both the PC and Cube can be on at the same time?

OH, afterthought! The modems powered via the USB port when the PC's on. Will the Cube connection work if the PC's off?

Hoe much will the cable cost and if the Card isnt LAN a new card aswell?

Sorry to keep asking questions but I desperate to play PSO online. I still have a Dreamcast with Ver. 2 with a level 93 character and never got round to linking to the net.

That's the problem. The PC has to be on as well, to play the GC online. With routers you don't, but it's more expensive.

An ethernet port is like a normal modem port. Most motherboards and PCs don't come with one. A seperate network card is only £10 and a cable about £3.

I use NTL set-top box which connects to my PC via USB. I then connect my Gamecube to the network card I bought.

The price can vary depending on what Network Card you get and wire you can get. I got my Network Card for about £7 and 10m of Ethernet Cable for £10.

I got the same set up as decswxaqz aswell. If it werent for him, I dont think Id be Online now Smile. The only problem I had was the Ethernet Cable. It wasnt Cross Over, so it took me 3 days to finally realise how to set it up Rolleyes
