Sony PSP VS Nintendo DS
#1
OK, I know there are stickies about each of these, but this isn't a poll. This is an honest thread reviewing the good things and bad things about each handheld. THIS IS A VERY LONG REVIEW AND WILL SIT YOU DOWN FOR AT LEAST 5 MINUTES TO READ IT. Just a little warning there.

Now for the review...

Graphics: Extremely easy to decide. The Nintendo DS took the processers out of the N64 and shrunk them for the DS's purposes. The PSP took a processer stronger than the PS2's, locked it at 2/3s of it's maximum capabilities for battery purposes (to date there is no battery technology to support max processer speed), and stuck it in the PSP. Even the developers only can develop with 2/3s of the capabilities. Hands down, the PSP wins out here. Easily.

PSP: 9/10
DS: 7/10

Games: Unfortunatly for my friend Nintendo, it's lost yet again to the PSP. While the PSP has Ridge Racer, a superb racing game with tons of extras to unlock and realistic graphics and semi-realistic control, and Dynasty Warriors, which, in my opinion, the best meld of strategy, RPG, and fighting ever, the DS has bullshit like Feel the Magic: XX/XY, a really bad Warioware-esque game and Sprung, a dating sim just not meant for mortal eyes. I mean, hell, you have a fucking touch screen. Do something with it.

PSP: 9/10
DS: 4/10

Gameplay: Damn, the PSP is on a roll. The games on the PSP are not only better, they're easier to play. I'm still reeling from the fucked up control scheme in Metroid Prime: First Hunt. On the PSP, I have one control scheme that works for every type of person. This topic doesn't even merit further discussion.

PSP: 8/10
DS: 5/10

Special Features: Dear God, the DS won something! The PSP might have music, video and gameplay capabilities, but come on, only 6 hours of music? iPod Shuffle for 2/5s of the price, and much more storage space and hours of music. Video is OK, and gameplay better be there. But the DS has that Pictochat thing. I love that. I don't know why, but the ability to talk to my friends on the bus without breaking any rules pwns. Wireless on the DS also seems to work a tad bit better than on the PSP. Sorry Sony, but the DS had to be better somewhere.

PSP: 7/10
DS: 9/10

Overall: The PSP wins out here, hands down. I know that all the PSP really is is a souped up version of the GBA, but hey, let's face it, that's what we wanted. The DS is too revolutionary, making developers tinker around making crappy games like Sprung. Congrats to Sony, but will the PS3 beat the Nintendo Revolution iin the console war? Only time will tell.

PSP: 9/10
DS: 7/10

TOTAL SCORE:

PSP: 8.2/10
DS: 6.4/10

see..!?!?!?!?!?!
i was beginning to think i was the only one...
everyone else here is pro-ds...
chances are that no one is going to reply to this unless they favor the psp...
i for one...
bought a psp...
after extensive play of each one...
reveiwing the pro's and con's...
and chose the psp...
i love it...

i hate the touch screen...
i find the usage awkward...
i hate voice command...though it's only in a few games...
and i hate having to veiw two screens at once...

and those were the main arguments against ds...
the only reason for hesitance against the psp(that i found) was the price!!!

Wow, thats a very interesting insight, but its all to do with taste i suppose! For starters i know many people wont be agreeing with your fact on which has the better games, especially on launch! Fell the Magic XX/XY (Or Project Rub as us europeans know it as), Bullshit, are you kidding me? Its the best dam game ive played in a while and its so dam addictive! Then you've got games like Super Mario (The reason so many people have most likely bought a DS! lol), & Warioware (You've got something against mini games havent you?). Plus on top of that, theres over 200 games still in development! I dont know how many the PSP has, but with 200 games, i'm sure theres something everyones gonna like in there!

With Gameplay, it depends how you look at it. Again, you've chosen the worst example in Metroid Prime: Hunters. The demo i played sure didnt really want to make me play the full version because the controls were so weird, and you'd need an extra arm to play it properly, but with other games like Project Rub, its the best way to play, and i very much look forward to seeing great touch sensitive features in games like Pokemon Tongue With the PSP controls, its exactly the same as a PS2, so its nothing new at all really, its much easier instead, just to buy a PS2 (Cheaper anyways), and play it on a big screen!

Theres two sides to every story. The PSP definately has a few reasons to be bought, but that definately doesnt mean the DS doesnt!

I have both and here's my opinion. I admit that I love my DS but for an avid-gamer it is not a great system YET. I say YET, because the DS holds a great amount of potential but I cannot live on what they have released right now. I've beaten Mario DS with 130 stars so far, gotten all mini-games and crowns in warioware, beaten all cpu based recored in Yoshi Touch and go and now I have nothing to play except for the occasional revisting of my beloved Mr. Driller and Feel the Magic. I like the DS but I need more! The games aren't coming out quite as fast as they need to for keeping up with gamers, but the future looks bright. But the bad part is that we have to wait.

For the PSP there's far more playability. There's more variety and unlike the DS, there's full-fledged RPG's and adventure games off the bat. If it's any indication, I've been playing my PSP religiously lately and so far I've beaten Untold Legends (15 hrs. of gameplay), I'm still working on Metal Gear Acid (13 hrs. so far) and Dynasty Warriors is seemingly endless right now (I'm on the 8th or 9th battle right now and it's only getting bigger and better). Plus there's the crack-like addiction of Lumines and Darkstalkers for me when I tire of the adventure games, so I have to say that the PSP is looking pretty good right now in comparison. Like I said, the DS has some great things lined up, but until they get here it's going to have to sit it out in 2nd place.

And as for the price, if you make the excuse to mistake the PSP with the PS2 then you can say the same for the DS compared to the GC's price tag. The PSP games, even though similar to some PS2 titles, are completely different and awesome for a handheld experience. I'm not biased for either system, I'm just stating my opinion and thoughts as a gamer with both systems. No flaming intended.

OK, I think you all took that the wrong way.

I'm an avid Nintendo fan. I argued my ass off that the DS was going to be better than the PSP before they were both out, and I was flat-out wrong. The PSP is a better system simply because it's not trying to change gaming. Period. Now, I can't say about the XBox2 VS Nintendo Revolution VS Playstaion 3 conflict because that's nowhere near coming into view.

Im standing somewhere in the middle with this because I have been all for nintendo til PS2 & PSP. The 64 had the same graphics basically, but with no loading of the disc! I hated waiting for 30 seconds to play my games. Then with the PS2, they had a bunch of good games coming out, but the GC only had a few. The DS could be great, but we need to wait for more games to decide that. The PSP is going to do good because it has stuck to what everyone knows while upgrading it, but only a little bit. Man, that was a moutful.
