Shenmue

How many people here got, or played, Shenmue? At the time, it was so amazing. The gameplay during daily life was kinda boring, but I always enjoy playing it through, and trying to get all the toys, and both 'Saturn' games (even though they were Mega Drive/Genesis games). Who else enjoyed this?

Absolutely brilliant game. Even the more mundane things don't get boring too me, as the settings are so well realised and nice to look at. Such well directed quick-time-events and cool fighting system just round it out - amazing!

Have you got Shenmue 2? I'm not sure if I like it more, but both are truly wonderful games. Towards the ending of disc 3 is one of the most breathtakingly climatic sequences ever. To me it hasn't really even been matched apart from the three 3d zelda games, and recently Resident Evil 4 has good little exciting parts!

I had Shenmue 2 for XBox, but I preferred the first game. Japan is way more fun than China, and the bit at the end when you go through the forest... it just got WAY too boring... But the ending was nice. Makes me wanna go out and get Shenmue 3, if and when it comes out. And for what.

The forest was a little slow, especially for those expected something even more action-packed than the Disc 3 finale, but it was really quite beautiful, and pretty relaxing!

Granted it was very well done, but the most excitement I got from that part was finally realising how Shenmue was pronounced, what the game name had anything to do with the game, and realizing Shenmue was some sort of cherry blossom tree.

Anyways, Shenhua was annoying. Why couldn't she drown in the river..?

Heh! I liked her! She also really seemed to encourage Ryo to talk more than the other characters. You finally learn to know more about the person you have been living as for a good few months!

I LOVE SHENMUE, that is a game of true quality, espeically for it's time. I was introduced to Space Harrier by that game, which I just bought Sega Classic Collection to play (my DC died). The characters are great, especially Chai, zoom in on those ears I dare you.

Anyone know that book won a Guiness Record? for being the most expensive game (20 mil).

heheh. I think Shenmue 1 was better than 2 in most ways. I liked the end to Shenmue 2 but agree that the forest was too long. I really can't wait for Shenmue III. You've heard they are making Shenmue online right?
Shenmue III with current technology would probably look amazing...... *dribble*

Hehehe!!! That is my Favorite Game EVER!!! (Better than PSO). Only thing is it took my so long to get enough money to go to China on my first beat because I spent all the money on those little capsule thingies...I was a lot smarter the 2nd and 3rd times I beat it.

I never got all the toys. The only rare ones I got were B.B. Ultra, Super Sonic and Metal Sonic.

I loved it when you had to 'Draw a ticket man'. 1st prize at the Tomato Convenience Store wasn't that great, though.
