opinions on female game characters

here to get a better idea about how women feel about this topic, imagine the game world was populated with female dominant players. what if all the women dressed appropiately and the men dressed like porn stars :S . how would you react to this?

Yes, it disturbs me as well. It's difficult to find a good RPG in which all the girls are decently dressed. Even Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time Great Fairy... >_<). I can only think of Pokémon, Golden Sun and Tales of Phantasia, and those are sprite-based RPGs. Heck, they even have indecently dressed sprites in some games! Excessively. It's not necessary.

I agree. There are far too many sick-minded game designers.

Edit: Sorry, but I dislike most of the Soul Calibur II's female characters' looks. Ivy first costume and Taki's red costume are just ridiculous.

Hehe, good examples Mirinee. I remember first seeing the Great Fairy in OoT, I thought she was pretty good looking at the time; I was disturbed. LOL! Nah well, I still think that it wouldn't kill game designers to add a bra on some of the girls, or even tops sometimes. :O

I can say the offical Nintendo mag does not seem sexist. They don't show female pictures to get you interested and I've been reading Nintendo since issue 17.

Well this for sure:
X-Brick is for guys who are porn-pervs
PS2 is for semi-decent guys, but still has some games that have objectionability
GC is mostly for real gamers and not perverted guys, but there are a few games like SC2 and some PSO characters

Really, not all guys care about is looks.... especially in video games O.o...... Too many guys do though....

The games like GTA and DOA: XBV are meant for guys to play, where as games designed for both male and female gamers will just have very nicely dressed and great looking female characters... and in a fair few cases, the men too! Obviously its no bad thing, otherwise we wouldnt have the increase in female gamers that we have going on now.

I know its not necessarily the case over here in Europe, but in Japan for sure, female gamers are just as common as male gamers (And they wonder why the Xbox never took off in Japan!), and if anything, the prettier and sexier female characters (And male characters for that matter), the more female (Or male) gamers want to be them and look like them, hence CosPlay being SO popular in Japan.

The reality is that everyone loves great looking female characters... even the female gamers at the best of time... except when it gets stupid in games such as GTA... and games on the Xbox! lol

Many girls like games such as Nintendogs and The Sims, aww how cute and cuddly, and look at what our house could be (Not trying to be stereotypical here!), while not rejecting all other games completely - However, the theory of slut designed female characters are seen highly in the likes of GTA and a fair few games on the Xbox, such as the many FPS titles, which are made purely for mens enjoyment, because developers know its not going to be a smash with the ladies anyways, so why bother trying!

2.wow very anti xbox and you dont knock the ps2 itself because ? it has more fps titles it prides itself on gta PRIDES !!! there both just as bad as each other but fps are not the problem i know alot of girls who think halo rulz and the bond series. this is about sexism in character's not the initial games...

Well the thing you have got to realise is that there is not a significant girl to boy ratio for them to not put female characters for males in there.
When you run a company it's simple. More guys play games then girls so if they make the female characters sexy then they get more money from guys who have never played the game world.

It's hardly a crime to put woman characters dressed skimpy in games. I can never understand why woman get upset about it. It's hardly making a diffrence on the game you can play. The last thing you should be thinking about is if the game characters look too sexy for you. Whatever happened to gameplay.

Seriously. When we play video games there is always a pretty boy type guy who gives off flaming homosexuality. Guys hardly go OH MY GOD I HATE THIS GAME NOW BECAUSE THERE ARE MEN FOR WOMAN IN THERE.

Seriously feminists get a grip. Alot of guys don't care about how the female character look. They just want to play the game. Calm down and think about gameplay not how many pixels she has in her bra and how much sexier she is to you. Because ofcourse real woman are going to be ontop of videogame charcters as there are alot of things you can not do with a videogame character. =P
