Help! Router
#1
i just got the speedtouch 530 1in/1out router and need help

its a modem.router all in 1 and uses USB to connect to the pc and has a etherner port for my cube/ps2/xbox. thing is i cant work out how to install it as every time i try to install it, it doesnt detect any TCP stuff etc and says perhaps it isnt connected properly.

now: in the installation it tells me not to connect it to the USB port until after its complete.. and if i plug it into the ethernet port, surely then it defies the point of having it to play online games with a console.. as i cant plug it in?

can anyone help?

ps. this is the "recomended" one by BT for console gaming
-->Import FFXI Gamer
30WHM/17BST

--> Have BBA! Now.. i need a Router

Hey sweetness

Ive heard about this modem before, its pretty weird how it lets you connect via usb and ethernet but i know it can be done. Usually you should plug in the adsl cable into your modem, turn on the power to the modem, then plug in the usb cable (first to the modem then to the pc) and if your using win98, 2k, xp it should auto detect and start installing the modem/router drivers (it will probably ask you for the driver disc).

If you want to connect your console upto the modem it should just be a case of plugging the rj45 cable into the ethernet ports on the modem and ya xbox/gamecube/ps2. The modem will definatley be default set to DHCP mode which means it will auto detect/assign the connection. As long as your console is also set to DHCP then there should be no problems sharing your net bandwidth.

Hope this helps m8

It doesnt matter which modem you use to connect to the net (as long as it has an ethernet port). What sweetness was trying to do was setup a lan whereby he can surft the net on his pc and connect to the net with his console at the same time. In the end he took his speedtouch back to the shop and setup internet connection sharing with his old adsl modem.

You just use whichever cable came with your modem to link it with your xbox. Unless your trying to set up ICS?

RJ11? Isnt that the phone cable from your line to your modem? You dont need to worry about that...

For your xbox to your modem it depends... some modems require 'straight through' RJ45 ethernet and some need 'crossover'. What cable are you using at the moment, or is your modem connected to your pc via USB?

It'll be easier for you to setup ICS and buy some RJ45 X-over cable. Connect your xbox to your pc's LAN card and share your net connection.
