Is the Gamecube running out of money?
#1
I was just wondering, with the GC going down to just £80, are Nintendo making a desperate last bid to sell more units? Whatsmore, the GC keeps losing developers etc. (Rare)

They are not it was a very smart move to cut the price because their sales increased 200% more.
And from what I know rare are the only people who don't work for them anymore but they made crappy games anyway.

He's right, Nintendo just had to take time out to find a price that fitted with the Gamecube, now it works perfectly! Theyre selling more units then any other console!

However, i still believe that not making a bid for Rare was such a bad move by Ninty. Rare had such high hopes and sum of the games they had in development were looking like o so good winners, such as Perfect Dark Zero, mmmmmm. The company WANTED to work with Nintendo, they never really made any other games other then for Nintendo consoles before, look at the N64, plus they left the bid for such a long time too see if Ninty were too respond. In fact some people were so gutted, when Rare became part of Microsoft, some of the workforce left, and continue to make GC n GBA games as a stand-alone company! Hows that for loyalty!

I dunno, it seems to me that the noone wants the GC anymore. I went into Dixons the other day and they said that they'd stopped stocking the GC because of low demand...

I heard that they stopped making gamecubes for a while. They r going down. A gamecube in usa costs as much as a sp.

Here in canada the GC is still in demand, people I know who thought that GC sucked and had PS2 or Xbox are now buying the GC as well, so I wouldn't think they were losing money, they're just keeping up with the ps2 and xbox while they lower there prices.

Its true that Dixons, and all the other stores in the same group (Such as PC World, Curry's etc) have stopped selling the Gamecube because of low demand, either that or they werent selling them as well as they should have been *cough* *cough* Wink Plus that was the time when the GC's price was around £129.99

Since then Nintendo had stopped production of the Gamecube because there was such a backlog of consoles that remained unsold in warehouses, its to that end that Ninty took action to shift these gamecubes, by lowering the price to a mere £79.99 (After another drop from £99.99), and now Ninty's warehouses have once again plenty of room, and Nintendo have restarted production of the Gamecube once again.

Thats the story as it happened! And yes, the GameBoy Advance SP costs £89.99 brand new, where as the Gamecube costs £79.99, its actually cheaper to buy a Gamecube with better graphics, sound, games, etc, then to buy a SP just because its portable! Ironic!

Gamecube still has lots of games coming out. I hate xbox for taking rare. I have goldeneye and perfect dark, and was planning to get perfect dark zero, but the darn microsoft took it.

I agree it was a right move as it has racked in alot more sales for Nintendo. Although it does seem that it is giving out the wrong message, but that is not inttended. With alot of new games coming out for the Gamecube, more and more people will be buying them. Therefore more profit for the company. Good idea right Wink

As for Rare, I admit that I wish that they didnt go but I'm not really bothered they did. They have brought out some great classics such as Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but not much more. As for Aarons comment of that they only made crappy games, you only have to look back on some of the games they created to realise they werent Smile.
