Grats to you, AH, you really got it right there. I have a little page on my minisite that explains my opinions on hacking and backup duping, and tries to explain why they do what they do in an attempt to cut down on the number of legit-elitists out there (few though they are, I get the feeling that some script kiddies like to FSOD legit people just because they feel offended by a disproportionately high number of elitists - IOW, they jump to conclusions just as easily as some of these "ZOMG WHY U HAX!?!?1" people do).

*edit* figured I'd make this post useful in some way.

Some people will still be asking why do people even hack in the first place? There can be many reasons for it.

Some do it to gain knowledge of the inner workings of something. If the hacker is already experienced, they may just do it to sharpen their skills a little bit. There are people who hack stuff just because they can.

Some hackers do it just because they are bored. Usually a bored hacker will try to find something exciting. Being able to Reload lobbies for example is a good way to get people to sorta freak out. It's pretty funny when you see the reactions from a hacker's point of view. A lot of you will read this and think "What an ass." Well, some people do find it funny or enjoyable to get surprised reactions from people, not from seeing you complain when your characters corrupt. That will happen when you start to bother them to stop.

A few hackers try to help players. Give corrupted or new players weapons, mags and speed level them. They come few and far between. They're never really willing to help because when you help one person, they tell their friends, and then everyone wants to be helped. Some help, some hurt. But people hack. They have reasons. Most of them aren't out to ruin games, and the ones who are, use stolen serial numbers and access keys, so they aren't paying $9.00 a month anyways. You can never do anything about them, just try not to get on their bad side. The reasonable or rational ones atleast. Some people let the "power" go to their head and become "God" on PSO. Just avoid people like that.

A hacker is just like you or me.. They find different ways of having fun, if they think curropting your data is fun, then they'll doo it..
Its really simple, actually, to think of reasons why people hack...
All this has probably already been said... but.. tis how I feel their reasons are...

-_- ya know if you look back through early topics before I was even a knight and way before you were here I have been hinting at these ideas all along! Now, where I draw the lines with hackers of any kind is where they modify other peoples data without permission, its illigal and can be a pain in the butt to sort out!
