Chapter One: Ambush

As the door sealed behind him, Dusk suddenly got a chilling sensation that had nothing to do with the cold air around him or the icey cold water at his feet. There was a large plant in the room; it had three beautiful, pale white luminous petals and was thin stemmed. It swayed slightly from side to side, and in its centre it had what appeared to be... was it sensing his presence in the room?

There was a screech as its upper stem convulsed and the entire flower lunged out at him. The centre of the flower, yellow and unusually extended, split into two so two jagged beak halves became visible. He ducked, it flew over his head and he sliced it neatly in two in the very middle of the stem in one swift movement. The top half of the demented weed flopped awkwardly on the floor, and began to half shuffle half slither its way towards him. He ran to meet it and quickly impaled it through its menacing centre piece before it could make more mischief of itself. Clearly things here were not always as they seemed.

There was another clunk and the next door opened. Feeling he ad no choice but to continue, Dusk strode through the door to an altogether different scene. The water from the previous cavern slipped either side of the path he stepped onto and flowed into a lake at the end of the more open area. He was at the bottom of some kind of canyon, as a tremendous beam of light issued forth from above. The new area seemed far more alive, pollen in the air created a smoky looking beam as it mingled happily with the light from above, as if glad for a change from the usual darkness and despair.

There was a plop noise from behind, lazily Dusk turned around to see a section of the lake, slobbering its way towards him. But then, he reasoned, it didn’t look quite like water. The viscous blue liquid abruptly cascaded everywhere, when Dusk looked up it was into a lurching liquid monsters single, glowing red eye. It acted at once, ambushing its prey like a cobra snake. It reared up and at its' base a section of liquid slid from under it beneath dusk so quickly he went flying forwards onto the ground. From the things body a pillar of water flew forwards, dusk saw with horror the end appeared to be frozen into a very real and solid spike. He lifted his sword to the point of the impaling device and it sliced itself in two, he proceeded to give a horizontal slash to the beasts’ middle. The top half slid away and suddenly he was facing two of the liquid monsters.

Without as much as a flinch he flung a metal object with a glowing red centre at them. The metal disk landed inside the first water beast, and exploded. The beast became frozen instantly, so Dusk leapt forwards and dealt it a blow with his fist into its' pulsating eye. With a roar it shattered and was no more. In seconds he had spun around and flung another slightly different explosive device into the second animal. It stuck into the creature just under its eye and with a squeal it exploded in all directions with no hope of recovery.

Dusk looked at the lake in front of him, there appeared to be an underwater cavern to which it was the entrance. He slid silently into the water and from the bottom continued on his way to the reckoning that would await him.

Reckoning may await all of us in the afterlife, but if there is no afterlife at all, are we already condemned to a life of happy unconscious existence like the pollen in the caves, flowing freely with no cares for the world?

Well, you may always want to look back a couple of chapters to remember where people are! From what I know, C1 doesnt lead into Jungle East!

Cool
