I was power leveling, 10th time through TTF, and my mind began to wander. I found myself wondering when the game took place. Then wondered where. Is it in our future? Occuring now, in some far off galaxy? The people I was playing with got afraid of my intelectual abilities, did not respond to me and changed the password of the next game. I am hoping that you will be more responsive.
My Xbox Live Gamertag is SilentShadow13.

i don't think that that was really something that they set in stone that i can recall. more like it's a "whatever you want it to be" sort of thing.
kinky huh?
my impression, first off, was that it was our future, when we kinda botched earth up and had to find somewhere to go.
when?
i dunno, i betcha nostradamus has a notion though. heheh.

Well it's defo set in the future. Pioneer 1 was a ship that set out to explore space and new worlds that people could inhabit (But of course something went wrong which i'm sure we all know!) probabily built on earth
Either that or an amazing coincidence that the people of Pioneer 2 speak English and Japanese (Aswell as other European languages in the console versions of PSO!

Ragol = Earth in future.
Yup. Look at Forest... do you see how much like Earth that is? There's even bears and wolves... It all seems alot like earth in the future........ or was ST just to unoriginal to make up a planet that didn't seem like Earth?
Too legit to quit.

I really doubt that it's our future. Don't read this if you don't want to be spoiled for the Phantasy Star Two ending...
o The Pioneer Plan - born of desperation facing the destruction of their home worlds. (Multiple worlds, possibly three, and so it could be the Algo star system just renamed Coral.)
o The Spaceship Noah and Mother Brain from PSII - Earthmen destroyed their planet, so set out into space to colonise another, found the Algo system and set up Mother Brain, who controlled everything. 1000 years later, Mother Brain starts playing up and begins to produce monsters which start killing off people, and the automated farming systems stop working. The people have become weak, and so would die out, had Rolf not destroyed Mother Brain and the Earthmen. (I doubt that the Earthmen would have two futures in the same series, so Coral cannot be earth. I also believe that the Ruins are the remains of the Spaceship Noah, yet I've no evidence for this yet.)
But the odd thing is, so many of the enemies are very similar to the original series, especially the Dark enemies. The Chaos Sorcerer and Chaos Bringer are almost identical to the same named enemies in PSIV. The Grass Assassin looks remarkably similar to the Locust in PSII. And the Mothmants are remarkably similar to the Sworms in PSI. Furthermore, Ragol sounds very similar to Algol.
But in that case, where are the other two planets. And why is there no previous civilisation? This rules out the possibility that Ragol is Algo, but not that Coral is.
And whiteninja, just because Palma in PSI had forests, as did Motavia in PSII, does not mean that they are earth. Sure, it's similar, but it can't be the same...

interesting.
and just to open some minds a bit, i believe this post was asked in light of such stories as star wars. star wars looks like our future, actually, but it's in the past. long ago in the past. so far back that we just lost track of what happened then.
strange no?
according to the previous post, it looks like that's just not relative to the PSO setting, however.

The series must be set in our future, since PSO occurs at least 3000 years after PSII, in which the Earthmen come to Algo.
If you wish to learn more about the early days of Dark Falz, try the original PS series on the Sega Master System and Mega Drive. Emulators are also available, as are collections - one on the GBA and one on the Saturn.
