Oh errrr.... Maybe as apparently it's constantly mutating it gave the immune system a miss and went for somewhere else. But if that was the case, the test would have picked up the virus and told him. The only brainwave i have is that it mutated into something different and showed up differently on the test results. I doubt that he has recovered from this virus.

I'm abit dubious but stranger things have happened.
there have been documented cases of people given about 6 mounths to live
witha sevear case of cancer. They turned up a year later without a trace of cancer anywhere or any sign that cancer has ever been in there body.
It's hard to judge what is a fake and whats real. Maby some people are just really resistant to select desieses. I personally don't think we can relly on any magical breakthough in healing HIV anytime soon :'(

Found it

. My Biology 11 teacher told our class about how some people have immunities to HIV, and here is some evidence.

The human body is, in fact, designed to learn to fight new diseases. At one time, I'm sure the flu was a deadly virus. But our bodies learn.
Maybe this is the start of nature's own little answer to our problem. Granted, it will still need to take years, and a man of that age wouldn't seem to have the proper exposure to the virus since it only broke out in the 80's if I remember correctly..
but hey, i'm no pessimist.

The flu is still a deadly disease. It matters on why type it is and the persons immune response. Older People have a weaker response making more forms of the flu dangerous to them. There is another pandemic scedualed to some. Eat healthy people!

the flu used to be a deadly disease because peoples diets were so crap, which meant their immune system was shot to bits so couldnt fight off strong diseases effectively. now we have good#(ish) diets, eat enoguh, live in warm houses (well for the most part) which means our immune system can function well, and kill the flu. unfortunately, the immune system starts off, and can kill nearly anything at all, but as you get older it gets weaker and weaker. eventually, you may get killed by something that a 20 year old would haave laughed at. (the immune system is at its strongest when you are about 8-18, and after that starts getting worse) just take my word on that unless you want me to explain it to you

This is somewhat an old thread, and I have a mind to close it, but it's an interesting topic, and thus open to debate/discussion.
I did read about this the day the site released it, over at BT.net, and I must say I'm somewhat dubious. This guy may have just randomly occured onto a genetic mutation, and hopefully, he can pass that gene on to his kids and it'll spread. Much like black people with sickle-cell anemia are immune to malaria, but are anemic by birth, this guy may have some wierd side-effect of the/possible mutation as well.

I heard that during undergoing further tests he was found positive again and the NHS gave him false hope with their bad sample sorting skills.
That's... just what I heard. But, I guess if the BBC site says I heard wrong then I did. Still, it seems pretty weird. Maybe he never even had it in the first place. I usually decide it's the system thats wrong, because events like these are so unlikely. More unlikely than say, the NHS doing there job wrong which must be at least a 50% chance.
