Item finding online: The grab-fest...
#1
Picture the scene, A monster drops an item, it's a free-for-all grab fest! That's what MMOs are all about. But no, now it's "OMFgz I killed that monster/I hunted that for ages it's rightfully mine! You stole it!" - If you're one of these people, please remove yourself from the online community.

Now, I'm not usually one to rant but there is an upward trend starting where people are claiming that an item they want that you took from the floor was stolen from them.

It was not your item. It was dropped by the monster. If I stole it from anywhere, it would be the monsters looted corpse. Some people need to stop being such crybabies, if you want a 100% chance of being the person to get the item, play offline. People online do not owe you anything. Just because you're playing, watching your screen, does not mean everything that appears on your television set is rightfully yours.

If you drop an item on the floor on P2 and someone takes it, as immoral as it is (I wouldn't take items like that) it's still you're own fault. The fact is only items in your inventory and bank are classed as yours. If you willingly give an item to the floor, what do you expect? Not everyone is nice. And the reason there is no trade window in quests isn't because "OmFGz!!11 ST is st00pid!" it's because you have made a commitment to play the quest (some quest elements are timed) and you should not be blathering around on P2 trading! Help your team!

The only real stealing in PSO is when hackers use codes to steal from you. It is only an electronic representation of a sword or whatever, get over it.

Back in the good old DC days you used to drop your weapon and meseta when you died, when someone took that item people claimed it was stealing. It's not stealing, it was an element designed into the game.

Please people, for the love of God, accept loss as part of the game!

Heh huzzah for common sense ^^.

When i used to play on-line though it was almost usually with a good bunch of ppl and any items wanted were always 'called' before embarking on said quest, or just making a team to try and find specific items for other players. I realise not everyone would have been this fortunate but as you said Anti, play offline to get your items if you are unsure/insecure lol.

I should point out that i had a character for online play of a high enough level with more than enough equipment to ever really worry about whether a redbox dropped or not. I may resurrect rogue one day as i still need that da.mn soul banish though lol.

Yeah, calling items is fine ifr you all agree. But if you don't agree to someone 'calling' an item that's fine to. Why should you agree, anyway? If you pick up a rare, you should be able to keep it. Usually when people say "I call *insert rare name here*!!!1!!" I just say "Good for you, but I don't agree. I'll still take it if I find it because that's how this game works..."

if you all agree to call a rare, thats cool. if theres 2/3 people and theyve all called rares, woweee, but if a 4th person comes in, nicks a rare thats suddenly dropped then runs off, thats a bit 'look at me im an arsehole!' if the person says 'youve called that but if it drops im gonna run for it' thats fine, but if they are asked to leave they should, because the other 3 people have an agreement and he's just come along and screwed it.

If you called it, and no one voiced an opinion against it, if it drops, it is yours... Especially if you made a game called "Hunt: Lavis C." or something and when the Tollaw finally drops it, another person snatches it.

Thou shall not violate the rule of "dibs"!!!

If you drop it on P2, then it's fair game. But still, if they are just trying to sort their inventory, then don't be a jackass!

If you find a rare in game that wasn't called, you should say what you found... I know someone who did not do that once... I think that he took the Spread Needle that I called... it was soon after I stupidly lost it, and I ended up hunting for a long time... Even if it wasn't, it was something good. It was Purplenum Ruins, and no Claws were around... Well, anyway, if you find something, let others know what you found! Then if you don't need it, and someone says they actually do, then just be nice. Wink (Though, you don't have to, it is yours; I don't always offer it to anyone who needs it.)
Too legit to quit.

When JP PSU releases, and any fine person who knows no Japanese comes in a game it's likely there will be items on the floor. Some people may have their accounts suspended for taking those items, even when they think it's for free. JP PSU isn't going to be like V1 where Asimba pops up in your party and stealz rares and leaves without suspension (seeing as it will happen enough times). Japanese people leave their rares in P2 so they can decide with others who should use the rares for that game. It's the owner of the item's mistake, not his or her's fault.

You see the difference though? They're all too nice, we're theiving bastards XD. Well, not me but, *points to countless n00bs*

But still, I'm not sure if what you say can be true? They should design an in-game mechanism if they want that to be the case.

I'm glad you brought up this topic, as i really do agree! well, sort of at least. i do think that rares dropped from and enemy are generally "finder's keepers", but that is not the case with me sometimes. if i am playing with a good friend, or even my brother in offline, we talk about who should get the rare, or who needs it the most. it can sometimes be frustrating, but i'm just a bit too nice about rares in this game. like the times that me and my bro found things like god luck and red handgun, i gave them both to him because they were A) his drops and B) he really needed them. now online is completely different, because people come in and take what they want. when i am playing with people i know, we also talk about who gets the rare. when it is random people, its a race to the red box! i never do find any good rares, but whatever it is that we find is normally just nothing to worry about. i would definitely agree in the concept of "dibs", because this person is either hunting something that they need help hunting, or just wondering "if we find _____ may i please have it because i have been wanting it for a while now." but if there is any debate as to if that is fair or not, then there should be a decision involved rather than just "oooo we found _____! MIIIIIIIINE!"
dropping rares on p2, well thats a no brainer. if it wasn't directed to someone, for gods sake its trash if you dropped it on the ground!
