Once my new PS2 arrives I'd like get this game, but Im not sure how available it is to me as Im in the UK.

I bought it. Its fun but takes FOREVER! Not to mention its impossible to find people to play it with. So, I never even bought a month. I don't even think I finished my trial

Maybe you just have issues finding people due to the lack of demand for someone with your job. That, and the fact that it's completely illogical to party before level 10. On top of that, you may have been on an underpopulated server, although I doubt that is the case. All of the servers are handsomely populated. However, if you were a thief, you wouldn't really get a demand for your skill, or lack of it, until level 15.
On top of that, you possibly didn't put the seek party setting on. Not too many people get parties without it, although in my case it's ridiculous, because everyone wants a PLD.

I've played FFXI as I beta tested it on the PS2 and I played the retail for awhile. I ended up cancelling though as the people playing the retail are just not very nice. They make enemy trains so low level people have nothing to kill for awhile and they will just watch you die then finish off your enemy rather then help you out. I normally play as a Red Mage so I don't have to party unless a quest requires it. I hate the whole party thing as you wait around for hours to get a good party together, play for like maybe 30 minutes then people leave the party and you have to wait around for another couple hours to complete the party again, it's just no fun in a party.

I just played the Xbox 360 beta last night for like 4 hours.

That sounds like fun. But I think it might be again, a server thing. You find some really nice people on the server I play, possibly due to the high population on it, people don't feel that they can rise above others like assholes, I suppose.

I got to level 12 or so, and yes, I did have the seek party on. I think the server was underpopulated or the area around me was.

Mm. I see. Well, I have tried many Jobs and gotten them to certain levels, but my highest is PLD 32.
