Shooting games? Hmm... how about the many Tom Clancy games there are on Xbox? Maybe Timesplitters too, Unreal Tournament possibly.
PC>Console for shooters. Mouse pwns you, silly controller. The only FPS I'd ever play on a console is Halo. Somehow, it just works.
But burnout... Yes, very yes. Not many better racing games out there. Except for the mario kart and F-zero franchises, and NFS has it's moments (NFS5 Porsche unleashed/2000). Burnout, despite many reviewers clains is
NOT a realistic racer, even if it is pretty enough to be one. The crashes can be over-dramatised and the driving physics, well, let's just say they're easy to master. But, if you're looking for some good multiplayer action and just to have fun and blow stuff up, burnout is great. I prefer sim racers myself, I like the challenge. I'm going to check out the new ridge racer soon, I hope it has put the recent negative past of the RR games behind the otherwise great series.
Look into splinter cell, that's a good game. And even when buying halo 2, I reccomend getting the first one to just for the story. It's easily as good as the second, just for the awesome scope pistol.
Fable is fantastic, but I think it comes second to the elder scrolls: morrowind.
