Who is ready for some Mecha?Yes,no,maybe?I'll post it anyway.Chapter one of my mini-novel,Delta Wing.
Delta Wing
It was icy, much more so than yesterday. But to Tori Rei,that didn't matter one bit.Walking through his home town of Aegis,he was oblivious to the rest of the people wrapped up in layers of warm clothing. It was almost as if he didn't even know they were there. All he wanted to do was to be left alone, and yet,the world seemed to resent this one wish.He carried on walking, away from the hustle and bustleof the town and its inhabitants.Eventually, buildings and roads gave way to hills and fields. Then he saw it.The only place he felt truly calm and at peace.
The oak tree was at least three-hundred years old.He didnât really understand what it was that made him come here.Maybe it was that no-one ever came here but him.Tori walked slowly over to the old tree, and sat down.It was sunset already, and the view from the hill was mesmerizing,at least to anybody else. But for Tori, this was just another reason to be alone. It wasnât long before he drifted into deep thought.Maybe he would have drifted deeper, but a voice lifted him from his soul.Angel.Angel Imawano was the only person who understood Tori at all.In turn,Tori fascinated Angel, with his dark, cold eyes, but also with the soul behind the eyes. She knew something had happened to him in the past, and was determined to find out what it was.
As members of the anti-terrorist group Delta Wing, they were thrown together during many missions,so they spent a lot of time together. At first,Tori completely blanked Angel,or gave one word answers to any questions she proposed to him. But,in the end,it was him who came to her.It was back when they were on a routine patrol...
The whole city had been leveled. It was one of the worst terrorist bombs ever known, even rivalling the power of the A-bomb.The Commander didnât expect anything to happen,so it seemed to him like a good idea to send the two rookies out to see if they could handle their mechs properly. After all,it was a normal patrol, nothing could possibly go wrong. But something did.Tori and Angel took different routes through the ruins,in order to patrol the area quickly.Unexpectedly,a group of rogue mechs, piloted by those who had left Delta Wing after stealing their mechs, saw Angel, all on her own,and decided they would get themelves a piece of new equipment. She was not any normal rookie though, and her mech,a Model-8 Tornado Pharoah was no pushover. But,faced with five mechs, she didnât have a prayer. It turned out that she did.Through the communicator in Model-8,her plight was heard.By Tori.He raced to a nearby rooftop using his radar.Toriâs speciality was sharpshooting, and that was reflected in his choice of mech. The J-213,codenamed Ice Rifleman, carried a Pinpoint Cannon, and it was this that he used. Two mechs fell before they knew what was going on.The other three quickly advanced on Angel.Seeing her position,Tori leapt from the rooftop and landed in front of Angel, just as the first mech launched an attack. The attack pierced J-213,and both fell. But it was only Tori who got up again,as he knew that a blast from his cannon at close range could destroy just about anything. The other two attacked quickly and then fled, leaving Tori injured. While he was in the medical wing of the base,he got to know Angel a lot better. She felt that it was her fault that Tori was hurt this way, that if she was a better pilot and fighter, this wouldnât have ever happened. The two of them became close, with Angel helping him when he got out of hospital.Maybe they even loved each other, but neither would admit it.Angel was the shy sixteen year old,and Tori always seemed to be detached from the world,as if he didnât really belong.
