Game music
#1
Ok although this is mainly on PSO music, i would firstly like to state, that you people who rip game music and play it, on your lil players...are insane

If your going to play a game, more then a few times, really consider finding some actual music,

As most of you may have found, the pso music gets very old very quick, who in the right mind, listens to this constantly?

come on guys seriously?

i did have the luck to talk to someone who is aware of the matter, and a i quote "i only listen to game music, lyrics are for people who cant make a good song" ARRRGGHHH
you damn people

(i may be drunk...)

I think there are plenty of good songs with lyrics. And anyway, technically you could listen to music that is not the game music and that is also instrumental.

I listen to lots of different things when I game, sometimes I enjoy the in-game music and effects (soul calibur 2) and sometimes I dont (PSO <_<). Rob Dougan did some good instrumentals if you like that kinda thing. He also did Furious Angels which is a pretty good piece.

I listen to some: Trivium, Rise against, Feeder, Muse, Reel Big Fish, Dragonforce, Catch 22, Disturbed, Hoobastank, Incubus, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Thunderstone, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Lostprophets (anyone heard the new "rooftops" song? - It's good but apparently in the video there's a bunch of emos) when playing PSO simply because it's what I have on my PC right now.

What do other people listen to when playing PSO but not listening to the game music?

i dont listen to the PSO music any more. i have a load of sys. of a down, rammstein, hot hot heat, trivium, red hot chillis, eminem, rage against the machine, nirvana, evanescence, godsmack and greenday. The ironic thing is, i used to play a game called tribes 2 and that had some great music on it- so good i took it off the CD and added it to my music collection. when i'm listening to that and someone asks me what im listening to, its a bit hard to explain Tongue

I usually just listen to the PSO music, but sometimes not.

I actually don't tend to like music with lyrics at all. I just don't really find the human voice all that musical... but that's just me. I just prefer a good instrumental song all that much more.

i dont have anything against non-lyrical songs, in fact some of them can be really good, but i think lyrics can (and do) add depth to a song.

Bad lyrics can ruin a song, and some tunes are nothing without lyrics.

The PSO music does get old after a while, but a few of the tracks are brilliant. I liked Still See the Light (ending tune), and the *forgets the names*... music on a few of the Episode 3 maps.

My fav game music composer has got to be Motoi Sakuraba. I loved the music to Tales of Phantasia and Golden Sun long before I noticed both their soundtracks were by him. He composed the Main Screen music to PSO too. :O

Most of his tracks had a distinct melody, and some are even "baroque", which appeals to me greatly because I love Bach. (Yes, I do feel like the only person in my generation to love Classical Music. A way to annoy me: take a few bars of Classical Music, rearrange it so it still keeps its notes, add in some lyrics that just popped into your head, repeat it to death for 3 minutes. Broadcast it on a popular radio station so that it reaches my ears when I visit a shop. Tongue)

I like classical music as well Mirinee as long as the style appeals to me. I can't say that I have any really specific tastes... I just listen to a song and I either like it or dis-like it. And if it just happens that 90% of the songs on my dis-like list happen to include lyrics than so be it. >.>

I like music of ALL types, no two ways around it, although saying that, it doesn't mean that every song ever made it good to listen too! Tongue

I've bought the PSO soundtrack, and i've also bought the soundtrack to Tales of Symphonia and have the soundtrack to Sonic Rush, and i love them all. I don't listen to them all the time because they do get boring but i do every now and then - Although the Sonic Rush OST is pretty sweet! Smile

When i'm playing PSO: Blue Burst, i don't tend to listen to the game music, i have it switched off, and i listen to whatever my Windows Media Player chooses from my hard drive, whether it's rock, pop rock, pop, dance, soundtrack, alternative, comedy, or tv theme tunes! Tongue When i'm not playing PC games (Or Xbox360 games for that matter), i listen to what the game plays, otherwise i listen to my own stuff ^_^

Sonic rush is a DS title, right? Doesn't that mean the sound quality is pretty bad? I'm not knocking the tracks, I have the zelda 64 (OOT/Master Quest) sound track and the Forest temple music although not of technical exellence is so freaky it just rocks. Although having said that, I also have all the Zelda tracks orchestrated which adds miles of quality in my opinion.

I think that so much great music has vocals that do not mar the quality of the music overall. Many singers have a very melodious voice that can carry and change in a variety of ways - like no other instrument.

However having said that, sometimes the feeling is in the purest essence of the sound itself (There's a particular composition by Rob D that's track 10 on one of his albums I'm thinking of here that is incredibly raising).

I think a great piece of music needs meaningful words for depth and awe inspiring musical tones to bring about feelings you could hardly experience otherwise.

I just don't get that from the PSO sound-track, and although I love the Zelda tracks I think most of that is down to sentimental value.

Maybe then, from music, we look for three things:

Depth and meaning (that relates to us?)
Inspiration found only in the purest elements of music
A certain sentimental connection

There are very few songs/tracks that contain all of these factors; and the factors will vary from person to person (different sensitivity to emotions, different connections and strengths of relating to a particular piece).

If you get that from the PSO sound track, I guess you're set Wink

But it's not quite me.
