I could use some advice. I am playing PSU on my Xbox 360. My network mode character is a Newman, Male Lvl. 26 (Force Lvl. 5) and he can't use grinders. No matter what I try, when he goes to the counter to have a weapon ground up the NPC can never find the grinders my avatar is carrying. I have made sure I was in the correct shop with the correct weapon carrying the correct grinder, but it still never shows up in my inventory. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nosferatu

It sounds like your carrying the Grinder ingredient, not the Grinder itself.
If you go to the synthesis shop on Clydez, buy a [B]Grinder board for the appropriate ingredient that you have (B or C), pop it in your Partner Machine and put the Grinder ingredient in your storage, and then synthesise the Grinder itself, you should get a result of:
Grinder C+x
or
Grinder B+x (where x is a number from 1-10)
If you then take that back to the correct weaponshop they'll do their best to either enhance your weapon's latent powers considerably or snap it in half.

Yeh, that one got me first time round. I sat swearing at my PC telling it there was defo grinders in my inventory, so just do it. Eventually i read the bits and found i had boards and ingerdiants, but needed to synth them into actual grinders. Oh and I managed to break my first wep by going too far with grinders, be careful!!!

A good idea is to use expensive grinders. I only use S+5s for my weapons. Less chance of breaking.

Actually I've tested that theory offline... it is MUCH better to just use a grinder with the same letter category as the weapon you're trying to grind. The more expensive grinders have no, or so little effect on success rates that it is EXTREMELY unprofitable and generally useless to use higher ranked grinders on lower ranking weapons. This is assuming it's the same online, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.
What I DO find though, is that higher ranked weapons are less likely to break than lower ranked weapons.
Finally... if you want to have the best chance of making a strong weapon... wait until a day when you have a level 3 luck rating, just to be even safer when going beyond three or four grinds.
I'm not 100% on a lot of that due to not playing online yet, so if I'm off on any of the info feel free to correct me... I'm merely making assumptions and educated guesses for the most part due to Sega's habit of code-recycling.

So, what I'm actually picking up out in the field are the ingredients to make grinders with, and not the actual grinders themselves. I then need to purchase a synth board to create the grinder. Makes sense. That answers a lot of questions.
Thanks to everyone that responded. I appreciate the help. Look for me online in universes 2 or 3 late in the evenings (Central Time Zone). I'll be the good looking one...

Is there a really expensive kind of grinder which will never fail? I thought there was... Not in terms of rank, but in terms of the plus number.
A word to the wise... Don't grind your flourescent bulb. Ever!

Anti, are you insane?
A flourescent bulb +10 is utterly insane in terms of power. I kid you not.
