GameBoy Kills Kiddies!!!
#11
I agree, I've always agreed, and I will always agree with that there statement Lee! Its just that kiddums these days are just playing the heck out of possibly cool games with absolutely no plot or much of a point, while a select few are out there doing the things they like and learning at the same time! And of course, not all video gamers are 'wee kiddies... why, look at us! A video game is just as deep and smart and whatever else as a book, if its a good game.. with a story... and stuff to read and figure out...

Videogames are killers, of course. Games make us walk out of our houses, steal a car, run over anybody we see. They make us crash the car into a wall repeatedly and then we get out and chainsaw the car to bits.
Games are games, therefore they are not real, we do NOT act like that.

It isn't just our kind of games, either. If the want to stop all videogames, then surely that means V-Tech (a leading company in televisual stimulation in young children) would be sent bankrupt, as those are games as well. The government don't seem to realize that they're pushing the public at large in every direction, except forward. They want to cut obesity, which requires children going outside and exercising. Unfortunately, most children that do that usually hang around bus stops and phone boxes smoking and generally acting the fools. The government want to stop that, but as far as I know, nothing has been done about that situation.

Being a child is meant to be about learning, and having fun. But they can do neither the way that the government are acting. They don't want them to play, even though playing is often learning. I doubt I would be the same person I am now if I didn't play games when I was younger, as most of you probably feel.

Next, videogames are "The spawn of Satan". They don't look like it. Tell me honestly how many videogames you've seen where the aim of the game is to do the devil's bidding. To act on the devil's orders and kill/maim/murder/destroy or whatever else anything that stops you from completing those orders. I can think of perhaps one, and I don't even know if it's even a real game, or a parody.

In some ways, it all goes back to the Manhunt case a few years ago, when a teenager murdered his 12 year old friend in a way he had seen on the game. Of course, the game was to blame, and everybody decided to march against it. Nobody cared that the game in question was owned by the 12 year old, nor the fact nobody bothered to test the teenager for signs of a mental problem which could lead to him not being able to discern reality from the game. As such, the game was removed from store shelves across America, and the UK, I think.

The whole idea stinks of political manouvering to get votes. Sorry to rant on.

Maybe just in Britain. It was publicized more after the incident and thusly caused the sale records to go much higher here in the U.S.

Not to mention it was a horrible game.

Oh, and ROFFLECOPTERS at the kid dying. He got electrocuted for unplugging his Gameboy after being soaked in a pool. That's teh funneh.

It could have happened with any piece of socketable hardware - a mobile phone charger, perhpas. But just because it was a GBA charger, that warrants all this media attention and moral panic?

Crazy. Totally and utterly frickin' crazy.

Stupid Government blaming video games, they should blame Thailand...

and H2O...

It's a conspiracy!

edit: Oh yeah, and the Game Boy is a portable games console powered by batteries... so the Game Boy itself isn't for blame, and the video game certainly isn't either. Lets hope the charger was 3rd party, would anyone really miss MadCatz if they got sued?

Or it could have happened with an electronic pencil sharpener used for homework, or a computer used to do research for a project or buy books online, or with anything else; basically, if people are going to act this way, then we should be getting rid of all and anything that could be, in one tiny-insy-winsy coincodental event, dangerous. Should we get rid of our schools too if one collapses on a soaking kid? Didn't think so.

Now I do feel bad for that kid dieing, but videogames are clearly not the cause of his death. The boy was soaking wet and tried to unplug his gameboy from the charger, that shows the kid died from ignorence. With the gameboy directions it clearly states that you shouldn't operate the electric device while wet or near water. The blame should fall on the parents and not videogame companies.
And besides there are plenty of educational videogames out there games like Brain age or Big brain acadamy for the DS. And as of late videogames are starting to require more physical movement to play and example would be the Wii or DDR.

Stupid Cathode Ray Tube... I WANT ME SOUL BACKS!

Sad to hear about the kid dying and all, even if it was more his own fault then Nintendo... Still it is sad and my condolences to his family.

The government don't think of them as spawns of Satan, though. The government gets money by running schools, but they get nothing from videogame companies. I see a pattern forming...
