SO I'll quote:
Anti Hacker Wrote:Haha, yeah the government IS paying too much attention to racism on a TV show which ultimately has those frictions designed into it to create revenue from entertainment. Don't like it? Don't watch it. Jeez it's just something someone SAID! No one even hit anyone!
IMO everyone should stop being emo wusses and take a good firm bullying like a man
I mean for gawd sakes... All this controvesy over someone being called a poppadom? Like there is anyone in the world who in the heat of a moment has never said ONE racist thing. If anyone claims that, they are talking utter BS. Political correctness does my nut ¬_¬;
I'm not racist, and generally don't get along with people who are. But if they wanna harbour those views, as long as they don't hurt anyone, why care?
"Oh noes! Someone doesn't like me!" - is what this whole topic boils down to. People should stop being panzies.
I don't condone racism but if someone else wants to be racist in their mindset, well, guess what? Freedom of speech and thought. Take away one of those and you'll end up with a crappy regime like in Iraquistan or wherever. Yeah I did that deliberately. Bite me, I don't care.
The point is, many people will have views YOU don't agree with. Aww, they being mean to you? Aww diddums! Get over it world. It's just words and if you let them hurt you you condone the racism yourself.
and also:
Red King Wrote:Anti is very right i know exactally how it goes because I MYSELF am a victim of racism.. it don't mean S**T when it's just a little thing being said what does matter is when they start to ACT upon opinion..
i know this through PERSONAL experiance.. i myself am a victim and people have tried to kill me for the simple fact i'm born german raised english instead of born english stay english
their motivation is that i'm born on a different piece of dirt from them and they find it an excuse to try to kill me
THAT IF ANYTHING IS RACISM
if people can't handle 1 lousey little word then they should get out the way and stay out

Yeah, we all know this. But THIS discussion is about the issues raised, not the program itself!

I can understand what redking was saying, I lot of people didn't like me because I was different from them both in color and origin. It made me furious to think that they didn't like me because I was different. But you know what I didn't really care. And I still don't care if they don't like me then forget them and I'll be on my way.

No, it's not about what was said, it's about supposed racist slurs. People say things when they are angry. That doesn't mean the woman is a racist. Besides, which, the show sucks, which is why it was cancelled here and then brought over there. Like your music industry, wtf is up with that Lady Sovereign girl? -_-; She's the most pathetic excuse for a musician I've ever seen. Not to mention her gangsta' stylins' make her seem retarded.
So what if they were racist comments? Racist statements shouldn't bother anyone because they're born out of stereotypes that tend to be true. Otherwise, where would they come from. It's not a matter of race, just something you spew out when angry. =/ Of course your Prime Minister had to defend "British honor", but that wasn't his job. It makes him look like an idiot apologizing for a reality television show. And the Indian people who held flag burning mobs are just idiots with nothing better to do. I have an idea, how about everyone stops watching Big Brother, so that way it gets cancelled? Problem solved....

^ Agreement.
But the thing is that words can cut much deeper than a weapon. If someone says stuff to/about you, it makes you feel insignificant, makes you think, in that dark corner of your mind, that what they're saying is true. This leads to immense mental trauma and in some cases results in suicide to be free of the anguish they suffer from some stupid shite who thinks they're clever.
However, I think the main idea of racism is going too far. Racism means hatred for somebody else because of their skin colour, constituant country, home country, etc. Now, we hear a lot about assaults on black people, or chinese people, which are called racist attacks, yet a black on white attack is never even THOUGHT OF as racist. Now that I feel is wrong, since every single person on this planet is of one race or another, and therefore any attack by someone of a different race could be classed as a racist assault.
And yeah, stop watching Big Brother. The hel is wrong with y'all, watching that junk? XD I wouldn't watch it if you paid me.

Big Brother, Watched a couple of the first season. As to catch in more viewers, they decided to put in people we don't normally encounter in our daily lifes to get a view of them specific people. Finally, they added Celebrities. The show is getting abit too tedius, I think they should stop developing these reality TV shows, not many people watch it anymore...
Racism, don't we hear it many times in a month or two for the past # years?
Yes, its hars and cut into some peoples emotional side very easily. but majority can handle the assault (words, not physical contact). From big brother, I hear alot people complaining/hating about the racist starter, who later appologised[sp?]. woah, after that, majority of the viewers started to feel somewhat guilty or pitty for her, later forgiving, majority who stand on the asian side still reject the other. (These are just info that I've read).
Overall, Its a pain to deal with situations like this, even if it meant gaming, 2 boys go killing and say its the games fought, claiming them selves as Sephiroth and Reno... And...they believed them... >.> *I go killing and say I'm Bush and Blair, they dont believe me...*

Yeah you said it! I think people should get a life watching other people do stupid things. Its like watching an old man taking a shower. Big Brother is puposly chose really retarded people (no offence) to put on a show.
I think Big Brother should get shot for making fun of people that way, its not really nice.

This whole racism thing is a big problem, not just in Big Brother but in society in general.
Racism is terrible, it really is. People should just accept that every person is as valid as every other person. Unfortunately, some people are truly racist. Some people harbour true but irrational hatred for ethnic minorities. This is real racism.
However, sometimes the line between bullying and racism is unclear. The society we live in emphasises racism so much that some things that are just statements, like "he is black" would be considered by some people as racism, when quite clearly it's just a description like "she has brown hair".
That's a bit pathetic.
Racism, by its very nature, needs to involve hatred. Without that, it's not really racism. Sure it might cause offence, but it's not really racism.
But then, even if you say it in a jokey way, it's still not very nice. Same as calling someone fat all the time or whatever. BUT then it's in the realms of bullying, not racism. I think anyway.
All in all, I think that sometimes all this political correctness gets in the way of logic. I'm sure a lot of stuff genuinely wouldn't cause offense, but is exaggerated so badly.
And about the racial assault thing, surely it would need to be proven that the assault was based on race, and not just a random attack?

IMO real racism is where people from obscure religions preach hatred of the general public to the masses. Anything else (whilst not justified) is just a reaction to whatever may come of those actions and provocations.
No one will ever accept everyone. There will always be fundamentalist activists out there who will create racial terrorism. All racism really is, is fear. Or feeling threatened by another way of life. It's natural instinct in a way.
However in todays' society, it's not really acceptable. We should rise above it.
But I'm just talking about actions, unless you're an emo, words shouldn't hurt you. Guess some people are just fragile.
If someone called me Anti - haggis (a mainly British food) I'd just... Well... Laugh. Hard.
