The ability to dodge enemy attacks with the circle-strafe adds real depth to combat now, since you benefit from increased accuracy from back attacks. I often find myself strafing one way across an enemy, baiting them into an attack, then doubling back and strafing round behind them to put the hurt on.
Also, it's not really mashing, there's just a (compared to PSO) huge window after an attack for your follow-up. I'm certainly more confortable timing attacks than I am mashing. The follow-up window's really short for PAs, too. Where were combos taken out? I still seem to be making three-hit combos with my weapons, which I can extend with my PAs.
Good combat tactics right there.
What kinda bothers me about most people detracting from PSU is how they're always comparing it to PSO. They're two completely different games, made years apart. Would you pay money to play the EXACT SAME GAME? I'm someone who welcomes change. Overall, I don't think PSU is better or worse than PSO, it's just different. Comparing two different games doesn't make much sense to me. If you like it, you play it, like myself and a few of the other regular posters here. If you DON'T like it, then you can stick to PSO.
Heh, it's almost like Orphen is trying to persuade people not to play PSU.

I couldn't care less about what people I don't know wish to do with their game time.
Just mentioning some irritating qualities that lead me to seek beyond PSU. Such as that it's the only game that two of my controllers have broken on.
PSO or PSU...that would piss me off. As would the other reasons I listed throughout the thread.
The truth is, PSO really had alot less flaws for it's time, aside from the fact that it's incredibly easy to hack, and it's incredibly repetitive.
PSU, is even easier to hack, shorter stages lead to the epitome of repitition. You'd just expect alot more after 3 long years of waiting.

Yeah. PSU is weak compared to PSO, simply because PSO has dificulty levels.

Online S rank missions. 'Nuff said.
No offense, but Nomercy, you've only experienced the offline game.

In my oppinion there's much more to do than there was in PSO, and it's much less repetitive that's for sure. The battle system is a lot more eventful and interesting than PSOs 'Slash. Slash. Charge. Slash.'; and the first-person aiming has proved itself of use, to me at least. The battle system is by no means perfect, but I certainly prefer it over PSOs mannerisms, in oppinion. Area designs were improved also; PSO Episode 1: after Forest 1 and 2, the areas were boring and frankly played out and looked like someone had used the Timesplitters map making system to construct them. In short, horrible. PSO Episode 2: At times, very Episode 1; at other times, very gorgeous. I often played Jungle simply for the fight above the waterfall. Certain indoor sections still relied on the Timesplitters system, though. PSU has areas that still seem to stick to ye olde Timesplitters methods (the first set of areas spring angrily to mind), but beyond that it seems Sonic Team have at least managed to cover up the near visible seams between corridors and rooms with certain differences - some subtle, some less so. All in all, areas are much more vivid and pleasant to play in; if still, at times, uniteresting. In saying that, PSU still lacks a Jungle, if you know what I mean.
Although, despite never being primarily a Tech user in PSO, I thought the new Tech system was a mistake. They somewhat spoiled a system that needed tweaks; not an overhaul. I do know of large contingents of players that would disagree, however.

That's my point. Offline PSU blows, but offline PSO you could actually do stuff that was an achievement.
