Role Playing...l
#51
What are you going to make a character sheet on? We haven't even started any RPs yet, nor do we have the sub-forum yet.

-.- I meant to do it to show you an example of that type of complex character sheet. It takes a while to do (Most of mine take upwards of two hours to do well) but when you do it, it lets you know pretty much everything about your character.

The weight and height description is negligible, unless you're playing an adroid who must analyze these for some reason.....

I know that part. This is what I meant.

Complex Character Sheet

This is much more than that.
Name/Nickname and meanings?
Gender?
Age?
Height?
Weight?

Hair and eye colour?
Skin type/colour?
Illnesses?
Physical body? (Including carriage/posture)
Movement? (Include way of walking - slow, fast, with a limp, with grace)
Facial Expressions when sad, happy, confused, hurt, angry, in love, tense?
Mannerisms?
Voice/speech? (low/high pitch, guttural, smooth, stutter)
Verbal Expressions? (favourite sayings, use of language/slang)
Hereditary physical characteristics?
Clothing they like to wear? (style, chosen or unchosen, uniqueness)
Appearance? (casual, posh, student, clean, unkempt, tidy)
Sexuality? (How do they express their sexuality, is it important to them, do they have hang-ups)
Tension (How do they express it/act) ?
Emotion (How do they express/act when they fall in love, hate someone, feel uneasy, are nervous, are happy) ?
IQ/Intelligence/Common Sense?
Abilities? (languages, music, skills, talents)
Introvert/Extrovert?
Inner Directed/Other Directed?
Disposition/Temperament? (easy-going, rebellious, controlling)
Other Qualities? (awareness, imagination, judgement, poise, sensitivity)
Complexities/Maladjustments? (compulsions, hang-ups, inhibitions, phobias, obsessions, prejudices, superstitions)
Frustrations/Major disappointments in life?
Emotional Literacy (most common feelings, what the character feels are their most/least comfortable feelings, does the character know what they're feeling, do they block some feelings) ?
Attitude towards life? (militant, relaxed, nervous, resigned)
What do they like best about themselves?
What do they like least about themselves?
Do they deny/not accept any aspect of their personality?
What hidden aspects of their character do they reveal about themselves?
What do they think of themselves?
How do the other characters feel about them?
What does the character feel towards other characters?
Is the character a ‘winner’ or ‘loser’ in life?
List their family members (name, age, occupation)
List their friends and lovers (name, age, occupation)
List their co-workers, employers, employees (what are their attitudes and relationships like between them?)
Interests/Hobbies/Pastimes (why do they like it?)
Special abilities/skills?
Religious beliefs? (include importance)
Political attitudes? (include importance)
Values? (morals, ethics)
Lifestyle?
Dominant traits?
Ho does the above impact each other?
List the major events in the character’s life
What is the character’s favourite memory? (person, place, time)
Goals/Ambitions? (immediate and long-term)
What is the character’s favourite passion?

The list could go on and on, please add more questions if you think they are helpful (I believe all questions are helpful).
By answering these questions you will be giving yourself knowledge of a person that will seem real and you will know what they will and won’t do.

Yes, this will take many hours to do (If you do it right) but in the long term, you’ll be saving yourself a lot of time and frustration.

Build and know your characters BEFORE you start writing!

...phew.

I would go as far as saying that the character sheet you've provided is overkill. A lot of the time people will concentrate on what's important and what's relevant to the RP they are joining. For example, about 70% of what you've presented could be condensed and prioritized into one simple heading: 'Biography:'.
It is utterly true that knowing your character before you join a RP is highly important, but knowing them in such unimaginable detail is just unreasonable, taxing and many of the traits you spend hours writing down will likely never manifest.

No offense. Undecided

True, it is pretty intense. Although that said, it's geared more towards hardcore writers more than forum RPing. X_x No offence taken, by the way.

I roleplay lots actually... on another forum I go to, pretty much spend half my life on there xD!
Meh, I hate character sheets, they're too boring, I'd rather just start out with a situation, figure out some kind of creative way to describe my character and attitude as it goes along, makes it much more interesting and makes people want to keep going more. *shrugs*
Let me know if you do get an RP section put up, perhaps I'd find myself here more often again ^_^ *shrugs* who knows...

Well, that's, what, five we've got now? Six?

I can probably convince some friends of mine to join and make up numbers. Both massive PSO fans and both RP'ers.

Yeah, no shittin' dude. Nomercy, man, that was WAY overkill. Seventy, no more like 80% is NOT geared towards hardcore writers. That's stuff that would appear in your first post and would never show up again unless it's a physical feature that consistently shows up, OR, if it's a continuing ambition. Things that would be featured in your RP.

And if you've seen my post lengths, and how consistent they are, I would say I'm a hardcore writer. =\.

And Infinite8, what the fuck is up man? I think I sent you a message not that long ago, or tried logging onto AOL or something.

How's it been going man?

Particle Ghost and I know what we're about, or at least I know I do, he seems like it because he voiced my exact my opinion. 90% of things you listed aren't even nearly important, and Ayenee would agree with me I think.

It helps me enough for writing, anyways. It's the way I learnt it from Scribes, and a lot of the members who use that format are published wrters. *shrugs*
