If you look at any piece of music you can always recognise talent within vocal or instrumental complexity. Many metal tunes aren't exactly deep it's true but I often find myself admiring the incredible guitar-play.

Unless you study music to some degree, those who know more about music than yourself will always have a more valid opinion on what is "good" and what is not.

Many enjoy simple music. Well; "simple pleasures..."

Well being in a band myself I think I have a valid opinion....XD I might take a course in Music sometime. More reccomendations...

The Agony Scene - If you're looking into death metal this is the stuff.
Angra - Portuguese metal/speed metal band, they have some of the best riffs I've ever heard.
Demons And Wizards - Another project by some of the members of Blind Guardian.
Dragonland - Only recently got into them, but I like what I've heard. They do a mixture of normal metal and melodic metal.
Nothingface - Haven't heard very much, but what I have, I liked. Especially "Murder Is Masturbation".
