Physical Discipline?

I'm not sure where this goes, so I'm posting it here. I just want to know your thoughts on using physical discipline to punish a kid. The reason is a friend of mine's parents used phyiscal discipline on her. One night a line was crossed and she was nearly killed. She lives with her dad now, but her mother claims she and her husband were only discilplining her and that my friend had tried to hit her mom. Since then, I've been trying to decide whether physical discipilne is right or wrong. Your input would be helpful.

I think it's fine if used in moderation. Spoiling a child is definatly not the way to go. Acting hurt won't matter to kids, well at least me. Of course you can go too far and actually hurt the person (badly). That's not fair or right.

To be honest, that's the reason I only live with my dad..... That f#%@#%! a@#hole step-dad was too many problems. So, yeah......you know where I stand on that...

I used to get the slipper regularly(sp?)... got the belt a few times too across my backside. Not badly but Id say its changed my mindset as i grew up. It made me more independant or crave for my own space to do what i wanted. I dont like relying on people or my parents and it annoys me when i have to.

Yes I'm the same way Sol, but not because of physical punishment during my younger years but mainly because of emotion, and traumatic experiences.
