In the weapons lists, I was wondering what "platform" meant, and what the different colored boxes meant under this column.

Platform means the different game consoles such as the Playstation 2, Xbox, PC, or Gamecube. PSO has been on many consoles before such as the Dreamcast or PC. This also goes for the newsposts you see in the front page news.
To answer your original question, the different boxes [in the item database] represent which platform verision of PSO has that item.

Yeah, but which color represents which console? I assume the purple is gamecube, but I could be wrong.
