Firstly, everybody should actually calm down. Secondly, both of the console's versions do have distinct advantages and dissadvantages, which I will now attempt to post here in an unbiased manner.
Ok, XBox goes first. I haven't played this version, so I'm basing what I say on what other people (who have the XBox version of PSO) seem to think. 1) More hackers. Before you go on at me for having no evidance, I'll tell you that I've seen this said many times before in many different forums, not all of them I can remember (in fact like none of them), but nonetheless it was still said. If you do not believe me, see that other people on this thread have been saying it aswell. 2) Voice chat. While this means faster communication between players, it can be unreliable as unwanted ...sounds could get accross, unlike a keyboard where you choose what exclusively gets across. However, I'm not saying one is better than the other, although most say that voice chat is more useful, so in order to be unbiased I will leave it there. 3) Seperate servers. This I've not heard of until now, and to be honest I cannot see any major advantages in it. You are stuck playing with people from your own country it seems, so if very few people are online on EU/US servers (wherever it is you play), you can't just hop over to another. If I'm wrong on assuming you can only play with people in your own country, please don't insult me by calling me naive or anything. 4) Lower cost generally. Although there is the cost of Live added on to the Hunter's Licence fee, I am assuming that this is cheaper than a broadband or modem adaptor for Gamecube, as this is what most people seem to say. In addition, you get the equipment with the Live package so you don't have to fork out extra for an imported ASCII keyboard or a crappy 3rd party powerboard. Ok, now for the Gamecube version. I own this one, so I can detail the advantages and disadvantages here. 1) More glitches and corruption. I have been attacked by FSOD on several occasions, (each time losing nothing), and FSOD-X once. I'm assuming this happens less in the XBox version as that is what many people seem to think. However, I wouldn't say this happens in the Gamecube version as often as many people might have you believe. 2) Keyboard. Although more expensive and not as fast as voice chat, it is undeniably more reliable as only information you want to go through gets processed. However, as I said before, it is more expensive and slower than voice chat so voice chat seems better. 3) Linked servers. The advantages of being able to hop from server to server means that if nobody is on the EU servers, just leap into Deneb 9 or, if you like to cheat (in which case you shouldn't even be reading a mainly legitimate forum), Vega 1 or 2. This can also work if you're annoyed with the lack of English on Spica 10. 4) More players. Yes, there is evidence. Just look at the members here. Look at the platform the majority of them play. And before you say more players doesn't make it a better game, allow me to remind you that the main point of Phantasy Star Online is to be played online with people, and thus the more people there are, the better. 5) Offline mode. I have heard XBox has no offline mode. Correct me if I'm wrong. 6) With XBox, (again, correct me if I'm wrong on this) only broadband users can play online, whereas with the Gamecube version of PSO, both players with broadband and with 56K connections can play online. 7) A minor point here: Episode III. You can see and meet people from both games regardless of which you are playing, to chat and the like. Likewise if you are playing Episode I & II, and want to play Episode III, you can just check your guild card to see who is online on Episode III to play with.
Your head a splode.
