It's a wonderful series. Has anyone else seen this series, or the OAV, Gatekeepers 21?

Its strange, I own the whole series and OVA's but have only watched it through once. (Hmmm...I need to watch it again). I really did enjoy the original show, but Gatekeepers 21 was incredibly depressing. The way they destroyed all the nostalgia from the old show was really terrible, but that aside it was a good show. Shun is still the man.

I liked Shun. Yeah, Gatekeepers 21 was a bit depressing, especially with how everything was basically destroyed. Ayane's view on the city though really related to how I feel about it here in New York City. I guess that's what I found really interesting. What ever happened to Shun in that series anyway? Better yet, everyone else?

The OVA's explained that the gates enabled a person to wield great power, but at a price. After using their gates too much, everyone in the gatekeepers were slowly consumed by their gates and eventually died. That's why the black gatekeepers body is almost all synthetic and it hurt him when he used his gate.
So in short, they all were killed by using gate power to protect the world...

An interesting sidenote: In case you missed it, the person taking care of the main character, who is Shun's daughter, is actually Shun's little sister from the first series.

But the commander said that they were absorbed by their gates in short, but he never said that they died. He basically just said that Yukino did. And for some reason, I don't know if Shun ended up dying..How long ago after the old gatekeepers series was this? I would figure 21 years later?
