Size or Quality ???
#1
i can play on a computer some genesis games and record the musics......but theres a problem.

there are 3 option on the sound, basicly it is bad/average/good

if i record the music in the bad quality it will have somewow a big size but the quality is bad, if i record in the average quality the quality will inprove alot but the size will double, but it is aceptable.

then comes the max quality, the change is almost insignificant but there is a change, basicly the sounds become more detailed, but the sizes doubles again making the music bad in terms size/quality

just an example.....1:30 of ecco the dolphin
low quality- 6 Mb
average quality- 12 MB (the one i use)
max quality- 24 Mb

as a side note, the reason of this insane size is the bit velocity, normaly musics have the bit velocity beetween 30kbps to 200kbps, on the average quality the bit velocity is 705kbps and the max is 2x more (1410kbps)

should i stay average or should i use the max quality?

Um, isn't 6MB huge for 1 minute 30 seconds of mp3? Can you hear a difference between your different quality versions?

Usually, I'd suggest 192 kbit/s at least, but in this case, Use the Sega Genesis' original song bitrate Tongue? You could always go for variable bitrate if you can't decide.

You could probably get away with using ~128 since the tones used are pretty pure. As for sampling frequency, just use 44.1 kHz (what CD's use).

low to average- i can notice diference
average to high- i can notice also but it is not by much

I'd suggest a converter. There must me something that'll convert WAVs to Mp3 and lower that massive rate.

Why don't you just listen to the tunes straight from that? Whole thing is less than 5MB usually. Most have a sound-test option, right?
