Why did DC fail!?

The only matter I can see is:

While DC was released, the sales were really high...
The first online console known to the UK
Dreamcast was a HUGE success....

But when PS2 arrived, Sales went down....
Suddenly GC arrived, Xbox too....

As they were online ( that was the main connection to the DC )
The graphics appealed much better on these new consoles...

Dreamcast didn't stand a chance and was left in the corner untill death...

Anyone else got any otha reasons why it died?

I honestly reckon is was just too ahead of its time. It amazes me how SEGA's consoles go down the toilet while others pick up. The SEGA Game gear is another example which was much more advanced then any GameBoy at the time and is still i reckon competition for the GBA. It was just way ahead of it's time and should have maybe been marketed a bit more.

SEGA's consoles were also quite expensive. The SEGA Saturn was WAY too pricy at first, but i really wanted one. I never did get one, and at it's time, even though it was better then anything else available, it too entered the toilet.

my thoughts on the matter was about cult status. the playstation was the best because hey! sony lol. the N64 had cult status because of pokemon but the saturn????? it had nothing. it didnt even have sonic at the start. it had nights but thats it. the the second gen cosole came along. the dreamcast was good at first but it went downhill with the calibre of games. it had sonic but thats it (i didnt know about PSO then ok?) apart from that there was no games that stand out and that people remember. then it wasnt backward compatable. well not 2 all those otha game from master system/mmega drive. PS2 was backward compatable with all its games had a DVD player. i think its the same thing thats going 2 happen 2 cube. but then again its gainin some speed in the cosole wars. so there we have it.

The dc failed because it wasnt "cool"
ps2 followed on from PS1's massive casual gamer fan base, it just appealed to the masses, but still supplied games for "hardcore gamers"
sega promised online gaming, its main selling point, but didnt deliver anything in europe for at least a year and a half. and talking of release games that didnt stand out, i think u forget jus how amazing soul calibur was and still is!!
and why did u mention backwards compatability and talk as if it should of been made backwards compatible with mega drive and master system lol
also 3rd party companys where canning games and pulling out all together to go and start production for ps2 and the up and coming xbox and gc

the DC couldnt shake the "saturn" tag, the ppl sega wanted where PS1 owners, but they still had memorys of the saturns death in there heads.

sega even tried to market the DC as its own brand, if u notice all other sega consoles have sega infront of them (Sega megadrive sega saturn) but the dreamcast was just...Dreamcast. apparently that was because sega believed there sega logo as a popular brand had been damaged by the saturn, and didnt want people to think "oh they made the saturn" wich is why it wasnt backwards compatible with saturn. they wanted no link between the consoles.

it also promised everthing, hard drive addon, DVD addon, net upgrades. but sega knew after a while it wasnt worth there time to release these, and the ppl that bought the DC where pissed off, and alot turned to the Sony machine

its a shame, it was and still is a great console to play, sum real gems were made in the DC's small life

What's funny is I never gave Dreamcast a mere second of my time until i bought PSO for Gamecube and decided to go out to buy a DC (even though DC is dead for good in the US) and both ver1 and ver2 of PSO. Now I love Dreamcast.

The DC died because there were way to many Sony fans already when it was realeased and when the PS2 came out people automatically thought it was more powerful when the fact is the PS2 is a "weak" computer the DC was more powerful but noone in the general public believes that. The fact that the Playstation 2 is called Playstation bought it's win.

The Playstation series are aload of s*** in my opinion. They have crap games (apart from Grandia 2 and FF) and crap graphics. I still have my DC and i still do play it sometimes. The DC had some of the greatest RPGs released on it. My fave games on it were Soul Calibur, SA and SA2, PSO, Skies of Arcadia AND my all time fave game.... GRAAAAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDDDDIIIIIIAAAAAAAAA 2!!!!!!!!!! That game is SOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!!! I still make the legend live on with most of my game chars named Millenia (pictured on the left hand side of my sig) im also gonna make a WinAmp skin dedicated to Millenia Ailish and Elena (Ailish is from Sudeki btw) for they are the sexiest and cutest girls in the gaming world. Look out for the skin soon! DC RULEZ!!! PS SUCKS!!!

I agree 100% apart from the Zone of Enders games on PS2 are good too

I don't even have a PS2 or Xbox, I bought a DC after I got PSO for GC just so I could have the privilege of owning a DC with all the original PSO games and Sonic Adventure.
