how much play time would a character need to start finding rares?
does anyone know the answer to this?

if you're really, really, really lucky you can find them in normal. other than that, you need to get to hard mode, which shouldn't take too long.
Too legit to quit.

need hard mode... the only rare i've ever found in normal was addslots...

Word of warning, though... most of the Rares in early Hard mode suck in comparison with the Rares you get later... DB's Saber, Blade Dance... the only good early Rares are dropped from the bosses, like Musashi.
