Indeed. This is the ultimate question. Now, to the point(less):
Milkshakes: are they a food or a drink?
I think milkshakes are a food, because, although a milkshake can be eaten through a straw, it fills you up; that's something a drink shouldn't be able to do.

This is exactly the distraction I've been looking for... a good ol' stupid debate. Alright down to business...
I say that it is both a drink and a food depending on where you get it. In my opinion, for something to be a drink it must first be able to pass through a straw. Some places, the shake is just too thick to drink with a straw (think pure-sugar Squishee from the Simpsons
).
On the other hand, it's also a drink because any liquid can fill you up. Case in point, in wrestling we sometimes have to drop huge amounts of weight, and believe me water can be pretty filling, not very satisfying but filling.

Well... milk DOES fill you up... so obviously so will the milkshake.... but overall I do agree with Zero....he said just about everything I could think of and more...

its both! because milkshake milk-shake milko shako MIlKshAke milk and the shake........ milk is a drink because you do not chew it you drink it... and shakes are a food because they have ice cream and you do not eat ice cream...

All good points. I do suppose it is both... because milk is a drink and ice cream is a food.

I have no clue what it is... because milk is a liquid but it came from a cow which is a food but they use milk in ice cream so if milk is such a so called "drink" then why does it make a food?? answer that! bwahahahahaha!

Answer/rebuttal: Milk is the most important ingredient in ice cream; second only to cream. Besides, water is also a drink, yet it is used in jello, which I consider a food.

Alright here I go again...
Milk is a drink. Drinks can make foods but they are still drinks. You don't chew a drink. That's the test for me.
Ice cream is kind of weird. You can chew it... but you can also just let it melt in your mouth. But then it isn't really ice cream anymore, it's just whatever ingredients are in the ice cream in a mixture. Not frozen together.
Milk shakes... are kind of both. You can chew a milkshake but again you can also just let it melt in your mouth. You can also gulp it down without chewing which makes it a drink.

hehehehe... I don't really put much thought into it... do you consider ice cream a food... if so then so is a milkshake... if not then a milkshake also is a drink....
