As Europe is unlikely (at best) to ever receive PSO Plus for the Gamecube, I'm considering importing a USA copy.
My questions are as follows:
I know I will need a new memory card and I will have to create new characters. Can I still use a European Memory Card to do so or must I import a USA one?
Will I need to purchase a USA Hunters Licence to go online with PSO Plus or can I use my existing European one?
Are there any issues with using Freeloader/AR/whatever it's called to play PSO Plus on a European Gamecube?
Did Australia ever get PSO Plus

No...you DON'T need a new memory card...you will need a US cube and I don't think HL matters. You obviously can't use AR codes meant for PAL, so you'll have to find the codes you use for US Plus. I can help you with that since I use plus. So I'll try to help you with whatever codes you use.
I think Austrailia is PAL so I don't think so...if that WAS a serious question.
I know for a fact an EU memory card works. I remember hearing lee say to me that accessories can be used on any format. When my 1.1 was too scratched up to work, and I had to get plus. I just stuck in my memory card I used for 1.1 and it read them.
Why you want plus I don't know unless you have my sintuation, but everyone has their own reasons I s'pose!

Import PSO+
Use your old memory card (The incompatible data is only between: EU and JP/US and JP but US and EU are both compatible on the same card).
Use a freeloader on an AR to load the PSO+ disc, then you will be able to use your old characters on your new version of the game.

You should've read my post AH, half of what I said you said.
Jester you don't have to do anything special to use your old characters. All I did was start up PSO plus and use my memory card with my characters and it worked.

Also just to say, if you do import PSO Plus, you will need to buy a Hunters License relative to the country you imported PSO Plus from. Obviously itll be America, so you'll need to buy your Hunters Licenses from sega.com/pso. You can't use PlaySEGA.com for your Gamecube Hunters License anymore

Hmmm, bummer to the having to buy a USA HL (do they accept HL from a country other than USA?) but I like the idea of taking my characters from my European PSO onto PSO Plus for the towers and the fire adventure. No worrying about dodgy connections and I can do the quest with the wife while sitting in the same room (ahhh sweet).

The solution: Use your current PSo to play online, use plus for those times when you wanna play offline!
The games go directly to the Hunters License database of the country's server where the game came from. E.g. An american game will only and automatically go to sega.com/pso's database when you connect to the online mode to check for a Hunters License, where as EU PSO games go to PlaySEGA.com's database to check for Hunter Licenses, if you see what i mean. Basically, i'm saying no! lol

Oh well, at least I can do the two towers and the other quest about fire without worrying about lag or a dodgy connection!
