Ive been playing the GC version of PSO for a while now, id love to play it online but havent been able to because of all the broadband fees but now i can finally afford to pay for a hunters license
I heard loads of bad things about online pso (GC) from various places, FSOD- not exactly sure what this does, losing all un equipped items?
Is there still a lot of people playing PSO GC online?

There is supposedly a decent amount of players on GC. I will be among them in 30 days (I'm planning to start on my birthday). I can't wait to go online.
I have also heard several accounts of BB players (a few you actually know) quiting BB and going back to GC actually. So, it sounds like GC must have been good...
FSOD is some crap that AR script kiddies do to you that freezes your game, and if you're in game (as in, not in a lobby) you will loose all your unequipped items. That can be prevented though by backing up weapons and by getting the SPSOF FSOD firewall, downloadable here:
http://www.vengefulsoda.com/spsof_v995_fwonly.zip
That blocks many of the things that hackers use to FSOD you. It will require that you have a router though. It is now of v1.87... not to say that the last 1.86 versions sucked, just that it has been greatly improved. The project is "temporarily suspended" however... but if using that and backed up weapons, I wouldn't fear anything. (I would still stay out of the US ships though because I wouldn't want to play with hackers.)
Too legit to quit.

Not A LOT, but enough to get a game. I usually find someone to game with, just meet some people and gather some guild cards and you should be set.
As for FSOD you do lose unequiped items but just stay away from crowded ships and you should be fine.
o.O!

What annoys me is I'm almost completely incapable of signing onto the official servers anymore. I get the Error 102 screen so often it's ridiculous. I've called Sega numerous times to no avail, so when it comes to the official servers... I try three times and if I get the error 102 screen all three times it won't let me on the server for at least another 30 minutes. >_<

It's enough people playing online to make it worth paying to play. I play there whenever I get the chance to[ I.E. When I'm not working].

That should be enough, but if you want your comp and cube online at the same time you'll be needing a router. That's what I do... having a router also allows you to use PSO Proxy for your snapshots.

The only thing stopping me really from playing BB is:
1: I hate ST
2: I LOVE playing PSO with the GC controller.
3: I have a lv 120 char on the GC PSO which makes me PROUD BABY
4: I don't have the BB modem and using the dial up one costs.

An RJ45 ethernet cable. It's the one on the left in the picture below, (not a clear picture sorry) next to it is a regular phone cable. That is the WRONG one. The RJ45 is bigger.

That's the RJ45 plugged into my GC. Then the other end (which also has an RJ45 end) goes to my DSL modem, but if you have a router, it'd go to that.
