Indeed Lee it does seem that the UK especialy are getting shafted over the price of the Wii.

Sorry chaps, the Wii is now not region free (because if it was we would import it wia Lik-Sang and screw over the UK retailers who would then drop the console faster than the Gamecube).

As a parent and also money provider for my household, I feel that the Wii is unjustifiably expensive for such a limited device. It has no DVD/CD capabilities
unlike the the other two companies, it has no internal Hard Drive of any real note (512mb ha ha ha), it comes only in the colour of white with no chnageable faceplate (clashing with my black/silver hardware).

It does have some Internet browsing abilities, but my computer with its keyboard is far more versatile.

It has a weather channel - that must surely be more important and useful than DVD playback.

It has Avatars - oooh gee, I'm so excited! Surely this is much more useful than say 3GB internal memory, I'll settle for 512mb.

It comes with a collection of uninventive sports titles which no doubt will only have a lasting appeal as multi-player titles. You also get only one controller so scratch up another £45 if you actually want to play the games as Nintendo intended (It's called Wii because it's all about you and me but only you can play it at the moment unless you line my pocket with enough money to get LOZ:TP and still have change).

It's aimed at attracting the non-gamer market yet fails to have a consumer friendly price tag. I'd estimated £150 would have to be the highest chargeable price before the non-gamers start looking at it as an expensive toy rather than a bit of interactive fun.

Its best launch title is a slightly re-jigged Gamecube game with different controls and a wide screen option. And to think Nintendo held back LOZ:TP for a year while Gamecube owners defected to Sony and MS so they could actually play games. (I'm not criticising LOZ, I'm having a go at the idiots in Japan who run Nintendo).

Well, I've had to make a lot of adjustments. I've gotten used to the Wiimote, accepted that the console would be of a much lower power than the competitors (which has cost me RE5). I've had to put up with the name change that was once revolutionary but is now a schoolboys joke. I had to accept that the Wiimote was not rechargeable so I'd have to invest in rechargeable batteries. i had to accept that I wasn't going to be able to get rid of the cheap nasty DVD player in my bedroom.

When Nintendo first announced the Wii I was sceptical. Now I'm telling my kids that they shouldn't look forward to a Wii or a PS3.

The Xbox360 may cost more, but it offers more of what I want and is better value (MS sell it at a loss as compared to Nintendo selling at a profit). If I want Nintendo I'll stick to the DS.

Xbox360 can do a lot more stuff, i'm just hoping the Wii won't crash as often. As to all of the Wii's exciting features... a weather channel? Great! Though can't i do the same with teletext, or by using the Wii's inbuilt internet browser? lol And i very much doubt it'll get updated constantly with my local town's weather conditions! And what will i need an avatar for? If it is like the Xbox Live Gamertag feature that'd be pretty cool, but Nintendo have already said that to play with friends you'll need their friend code for each game they've got which is just so incredibly lame i can't believe it's true. As to the 512Mb memory card storage... ffs Nintendo... ffs -_-

[EDIT] Also just found the stuff to do with the European Wii not being region free... are they trying to p**s me off? Angry

After taking in the past few days news regarding Nintendos latest offering, i can say i am neither delighted or unhappy.
This is the first console generation(x360 and ps3 included) that has, overall, disappointed me.
As far as Wii is concerned let me start by saying, graphically(a lot of people have been concerned about this) i am not worried. The very latest MP3 Corruption videos have placated me somewhat showing awesome graphics from what is an underpowered next-gen console. The weather channel????wtf Nintendo??? ok. The Mii channel(avvies) i like. Being able to upload a Mii to your Wii-mote and go to a friends and (confirmed) load said Mii into a game, Wii sports, Warioware, i do like the idea. Region-free no, bollocks is all i can say. Imports again with a freeloader type device ho-hum.Dvd functionality. Who gives a crap, really? The PS2 was a killer hardware choice in the dark ages BECAUSE back then it was also a cheap DVD player. Nowadays DVD playback in a console is pointless. Superb DVD sell for under £80 these days, and usually DVD playback on consoles is awful anywhoos. The memory solution for Wii is fine as well imo. We wont be charged for on board HD and SD cards are getting real cheap now,c'mon. Also if you feel the need for external storage, well, go buy a USB external HD. Just picked up a 300Gb external HD for £80 on ebay. Sweet. Also no HiDef so no need for masses of internal ram, get it yet? I do agree on the screwing aroung of Zelda for the cube. Ffs Kyoto what the hell were you doing? Unimpressed for sure.......................

I am not trying to Shove fanboyism(a word?) in peoples faces because as is known i am a Nintendo fan, i'm saying i can find faults in the Wii easily, but are they enough to put me off buying one? No. I want Virtual Console badly, I want to play Mario Galaxy, MP3, LoZ: TP, Dragon Quest, RE umbrella Chronicles. Problem is as well ican find faults in other systems. It can be argued on sales alone that X360 is a one game console-Halo 3, seeing as Halo 1+2 total sales outsold the remaining top twenty Xbox games. Who isnt waiting for Halo 3? Halo 3 will sell buckets of 360s. How many people want a PS£ just for FF and MGS next installments?

So my friends i will stop now(hurray says all) by concluding that in this day and age a new console launch is now not simple as it was. In the past ideas were fresh, sequels did not rule and graphics were easy to update. Now we are at the limits of silicon(almost) and it seems the only thing left is to display last-gen graphics in Hi-Def.

OOps one more thing to say, the Wii,like it or not, is now marketed to a wider audience and i can understand how the Wii came to be. As a gamer, like i said i can, and have picked faults with it, but ineed my new chapters of existing Nintendo classics just like millions of others throughout the world. £180 is ok, would have prefered it to be bundled with Zelda though. Wii sports for the non-gamers. A choice would have been nice.

Peace.
