Hey guys, wow it's been a long time since anything has happened here. Thanks SEGA for finally getting around to publishing that once promised English version of Phantasy Star Online 2! *cough*

So does anyone here who's still checking this place (Or stumbled across it again for memory sakes) still play PSO2? The Japanese release I'm talking about - Because it's the only version there is!

I've finally decided to get my arse in gear and try it out. Installing it is proving tough enough, but when I finally get there, is anyone else still on it?

Obviously to install it I've got several guides (Not to mention K_I_R_E_E_K's of course - Here). I'll let you know when I get this b*****d working!

Also, any top PSO2 tips for a (I can't believe I'm even saying this...) newbie? :O

posting from my 3ds so if you see this, its the very brief version.

Since the last thread (sorry, been meaning to do this for awhile) pso2 has had 3-4 updates (from hot springs to new bosses completely), the major additions are:

The dragon alter level (http://youtu.be/hBX-rvQdgN4 - free field run done by yours truly)
Level cap raised to 60
Hot springs team room
New skills and major reworking of hunter stances
10* trading!
Chrome dragon EQ
Egg rappys! (with easter lobby, with the psogc easter lobby music, so so good :'))
Naturally, costumes by the thousands.
Three new advance quests, with yet more psogc items (Twin brand and dragon slayer to name but a few).
Grinding buffs, its now slightly easier then before.

Now! for the future alot of stuff was revealed/confirmed over the last week or two (For the Japanese version anyway) that has me very, very excited. First things first:

A tower is coming to PSO2 very, very soon (in 2-6 weeks, is my best guess). Heres a small trailer video with some bits in action: http://youtu.be/rJAC6OpXzxc (The first section is the new forest base team room). From what we know:
You have 30 mins to 'clear' the tower, however that's done.
Each floor has a condition before you can go to the next one, IE kill 10 spardons within 15 seconds, or defeat 23 parts of the big vardha and kill it in 3 minutes. Also if you notice, there is a posion gas effect during that video, just to add more pressure on you...

Emergency code: Pso2 episode... two?

mmhmm, that's right. The second ark of the story has been officially announced, not many details have been given, however what we do know is this:

Three new classes (totalling 9, 3 is my guess anyway but makes sense)
New planet(s). one is an ocean based planet with a level on the beach/seabed (Anyone guessing a jungle area will be on the same planet?)
A new race! Dewmans make a grand entry into pso2 in episode 2, boasting high attack stats but lacking in Hp/defense's
The beginning and End of the Arks
The third type of Darkers
Who are the Photoners?

Unfortunately, we need to wait till at least June for more information, however have a trailer with some cool music: http://youtu.be/LTYZNGmRIwk (note at 0:43 how that character looks alot like the Hunewearls from pso1, a connection, perhaps?)

Anyway, part 2 of the imperial guardian update comes tomorrow, with a new time attack quest, possibly new advance quests and a new set of costumes \o/

Phantasy Star Online 2, Sonic Team's online action-RPG which launched for Windows PCs in Japan last July, has been delayed in North America, publisher Sega told Polygon today.

The game never received a formal release date in North America, only being targeted for an "early 2013" release. Considering we're nearly out of the first quarter of the year with no word on the title's release plans, it seemed unlikely that the game would hit that goal, despite being playable last year at PAX Prime.

"Originally slated for an early 2013 launch, Sega can officially confirm that PS02 has been delayed," a Sega spokesperson told Polygon. "We don't have any specifics but will update everyone as soon as there are more details to share."

The title was also ported to Japanese PS Vitas in February of this year.

Bad times.
Do you think we'll ever see it get officially released into English?

All-right, so the second part was added by me but hey, its true :p

The new event/patch/expansion (I don't even know what to call these nowdays) for pso2 landed on the 23rd of this month, the main features being:

Valentine lobby, complete with many lovehearts/teddy bears AND the pso1&2 valentine lobby music Picture here
Class level raised to lv55!
Love rappies!
Love rappy costume, love rappy themed weapons (Seen here)
Tons more other costumes, a return of the old 'Toy hammer' from lv46+ love rappys aswell (Both of which can be seen here - which i got both on the first day )
A new Emergency quest 'Where's the chocolate' - this involves running around the caves level (which is shaped into a heart, d'awww) saving various female NPC's from emergency code, which escalates into saving the cake sisters at the end.
A new time attack quest, taking place on planet naberius (Forest/tundra/ruins) - unlike the others which have afew puzzles/traps, this one is just a pure killing vest, reminds me of the old maximum attack quests .
Advance quests land in part two of this update, of which little infomation is known.

Stuff that i missed out from the last update, because :lazy: and :Forgetful: so my bad :3.

Part 3 of the last patch brought us the darkers den and code: clone.

Darkers den:

To get into the darkers den (or, flag yourself for abuction) you need to jump through the following hoops: Firstly, get a message from koffee about the darkers kidnapping 'elite' arks members. Secondly, get yourself a dark falz or falz Hunar kill (not confirmed, but data suggests this to be true). Thirdly, clear every very hard TA quest at least one. Finally, s-rank any TA 6-times then run to the TA gate and hope the darkers assault and make your campship crash in the den, only to awake to a scrambled message from the arks ship and this site......

once your in, thats it, you have an hour to clear the den, or retire back to the arks ship in shameful defeat (Just kidding). You cant go back to the campship to restock either, because the darkers made it crash, so your limited to 5 revives per person, lucky they are an AOE ^_^;

The spawns are.. insane, for once it actually feels like a real challenge - you find the hardest bosses inside (Triple boosted rare darker bosses, with, seemingly, a million hp+) with all their lovely grunt type spawns. It really is hard to get the picture across, but imagine phantasmal world 3 style maps, but in pso2, now add bosses that will one-shot you without mercy (or hit 700+).

Finally, s-rank any TA 6-times then run to the TA gate and hope the darkers assault and make your campship crash in the den, only to awake to a scrambled message from the arks ship and this site......

once your in, thats it, you have an hour to clear the den, or retire back to the arks ship in shameful defeat (Just kidding). You cant go back to the campship to restock either, because the darkers made it crash, so your limited to 5 revives per person, lucky they are an AOE ^_^;

Combine that all at once and you have this quest.

After you do all that and clear it, you get cloned! for afew days, or until you kill it enough

Spooky~
New thread, new update and well, a big boss and download await

The Dark Falz battle: he’s planet sized, each ship fights a section of the body, then in stage 2 you fight his main body. It appears as an emergency quest.

This is all that's known of the fight so far. its not known if all the ships would work together for stage one and two, or when stage two hits you stay on your own little ships group and not have a huge 120 person fight (Although, that'd be awesome.. and harsh on both the servers and your computer).

Weapon Potential Abilities:

A new feature for December aswell, Certain weapons have hidden special abilities. (At this time, its not known if it applys to all weapons, or just a selection) basically, you grind a weapon to +10 and if it has a special ability, a new option will unlock in the item lab. This then (if you choose) will reset the grind level back to +0, but unlocks level one of the special ability. The only one that's been announced increases just attack (Read: Heavy attack from psogc/bb) damage by 3%. At the moment, it appears you don't have an upper limit to the level of the ability - but I imagine it will cap at lv5 (as other ability's are)

Grinding an 8star weapon to +10 is a traumatic experience alone, one I've not even gotten yet in ~600 hours playtime, so this is an.. interesting addition if its only for afew specific weapons. Imho not worth the time spent grinding to +10 again

As always, will bring more news when its released. I expect the first part of the update to land in 9 days, on the 5th of December with a tasty 4gb download o.o'

Edit: Some more infos!

St.rappys/Christmas lobby picture/Christmas limited time emergency code 'Merry Christmas on Ice!' (Battle to the end of tundra to protect the cake sisters!)

And of course, you cant have an update without a few new costumes

The Thing which Destroys History, the November update has been revealed, with a couple of features (I much prefer the topic titles name for the update, which is why its there :p)

Darkers den/ruins will be playable, complete with a new boss, with part one of this release (7th or 14th of November I'm guessing). I've been reading that the few lucky people who've played this area have found it very hard and a nice step up in difficulty from the previous areas. How it gets released, we'll have to see (Orignally - Tundra, mines and floating continent where hard-mode only when they first launched. We'll have to wait and see if darkers den is very hard only and yes, I know that image shows lv30 [Normal mode] but this is sega and it means nothing)

The new boss - Zeshreida

Now, for other news:

They are implementing a new system after you hit the level cap called 'Expedition cube' (Or just excube for short). This new system allows you to spend exp you gained after the cap on new items, such as mag devices, 10 star slot units and much more. Two items that have been revealed are “PM Device / Ajax” and “Rear / Rappy Feather”

A photon drop trader is (finally!) being added - allowing you to trade your mass collection (I have 462 of them -.-) of PD's for items/units/weapons. More information in this will be released soon, ill update when I hear more.

Note: I'm not sure if PM Device = partner machinery device, so it changes your mag into one from PSU when used. Its a pretty safe assumption, but don't hold out for it - If I hear for sure that it is, then you'll know for sure that it is :p

Octobers update deserves a flashy title, because, wow, its like, huge....

Features:

Lv50 level cap (No more exp full for awhile, yay)
Very hard mode unlocked + 'rare' boss spawns only on this difficulty (King vardha, oh boy)
2 new PA's per weapon class, 1 new tech per element
Many, many new weapons added (more on this below)
New field called 'Darkers Den' and no, its not psogc/bb ruins (Boooo) think PSZ ruins
Tons new costumes, but nothing new there
Halloween lobby and possibly halo rappys aswell (like in summer)
Subclasses! (more below aswell)

New weapons:
Well, the first 10 star rare weapons and 6(?) star common weapons are being added some point during October, alot of old weapons are being put in, at some point, they include.

Demo comet, imperial pick, Berdysh, guld milla, Yas 9k, Frozen shooter, Mahu, Demonic fork, cadacus, Prophets of Motav, Elysion, Sting tip, Silence claw, Girasole, windmill and L&K 14 combats.

Most retain their old weapon classes, however some appear grouped with others (Frozen shooter for one - assault rifle)... sad to say, but the demo comet was my first ult mode pso drop and I can only imagine how awesome it will be in pso2 - I will be buying/finding one asap x_x

Subclasses:

Probably the biggest part of the update and the main update I've been looking forward to since the game launched...

To keep it simple - the subclass system allows you to effectively be two classes at once. You can use the subclass’ photon arts, technics, and skills but there’s a catch. You can only use your main class’ weapon categories.

In addition to this, whatever subclass you pick provides 20% of its base stats as a boost to your main class (excluding pp?). Which to be fair, isnt a great deal in terms of overall boosts, as seen below: (bare in mind, im running 1388 s-atk at max and that's with a weakish weapon, meh ability's and ofc, newman base atp)

Imo, the biggest advantage to the whole subclass thing is enabling non-force classes to cast techs. For sure i will be a fighter main class, with the techer sub-class, for quite a simple and effective reason...

Infinite shifta for fighter for soloing - instead of just 5 per run (items), in addition, techers can get up to a 10% boost (29% atp rise, iirc) and up to 10% crit buff for shifta. The same for deband (But 10% flat damage reduction, instead of the crit buff) - restas to save on items during exceedingly damage heavy boss fights (And they will heal alot, hail newman mst \o/).

Personally, i cant wait for this to happen, the only other update im hyped for is the dark falz update, comming soon™

Hello all, some news about the September update, new classes and weapon types

New Class: Fighter (ファイタ&#12540
To unlock this class you must be level 30 in Hunter, they excel at lightweight weapons.
Equipable weapons:
Double Sabers (New)
Twin Dagger (New)
Knuckle (New)
Gunslash
Any other weapons they can equip at this point are unknown.

New Class: Gunner (ガンナ&#12540
To unlock this class you must be level 30 in Ranger, it has a class skill called “Chain Trigger” that boosts damage
Equipable weapons:
Twin Machine Gun (New - think old mechguns from psogc, I'm guessing anyway)
Gunslash
Any other weapons they can equip at this point are unknown.

New Class: Techer (テクタ&#12540
To unlock this class you must be level 30 in Force, this class is intended for you to battle on the front-lines.
They have access to wind, light, and dark technics. (Forces have light offensive magic already - Its safe to assume this class has a mastery branch for light in the skill tree)
Any other technics are unknown.
Equipable weapons:
Wand (New)
Gunslash
Any other weapons they can equip at this point are unknown.

New Weapon info:

Knuckles:
Knuckles can be used by Fighters, any other classes are unknown at this point.
Their extra action icon is original, different from the shield icon.
They have a “Heat Gauge” type gear that increases and decreases.
(I think Heat Gauge is just a fancy way of saying it fills up and depletes whether it is on its own or through damage, like Sword Gear.)

Double Saber:
Double sabers can be used by Fighters, any other classes are unknown at this point.
Their extra action icon is original, different from the shield icon.
Their 'gear' appears to work similar to wired lances (consumes 1 bar for 30% increased PA damage, 5-6 hits to charge one bar, max of 3 stored, doesn't decrease over time)

Twin Dagger:
Twin Daggers can be used by Fighters, any other classes are unknown at this point.
Gear and extra action details are unknown.

Twin Machine Guns:
Twin Machine guns can be used by Gunners, any other classes are unknown at this point.
Twin Machine Guns have a “Heat Gauge” type gear.
When you use gear, your attack power increases.
When you receive damage, the gear decreases.
Extra action icon is original, different from the back palette icon.

Wands
Wands can be used by Techers, any other classes are unknown at this point
Wands even have “Heat Gauge” type gear, but their effects are unknown.
They have a back palette icon, it seems to be similar to Rods.

Looking at this info, it appears (at least) the fighter class is dropping all defences to be quick and nimble, but very punishing if you actually get hit, which should make it fun to play when tired. Although you try playing a Newman hunter with fury stance and tell me its not already over punishing.....

Techers look fun, a front-line force with (I assume) more defence. Ill be sure to be Leveling my Newman's force class to 30 before this lands.

August 8, 2012 from 11:00 (Wed)
Terms of Use "Phantasy Star Online 2" will be revised as follows.
The Section 8 specifies a new Article 2.
(Use of game servers) Article 2 of
this connection to the game server 8., you shall be limited to the connection from the software that is installed on the terminal exists in Japan.
It is prohibited to connect via a direct connection to Japan from abroad, and a terminal located in Japan and from outside Japan.

So now its breaking the ToS to even connect to the jap version, interesting developments, but its sega, so I'm not worried. This also existed in the closed alpha/beta testing phases but no-one was ip banned from outside of Japan
By default, this will be:
If you are having trouble extracting the patch to the win32 folder due to 'Access denied', run WinRAR as Administrator and navigate to the rar through that, then extract as normal.
