I didn't know there was a thread like this before- but if there was the mods'll close it soon enough. Anyway- what about this:
How come you can't shoot through doorways, if the door is open?
And similarly, why can't monsters walk through doorways?
The Mosters are only protecting their teritory and since doors only open to People, including Androids and Newman, their territoty only goes as far as the doors
The doorways have a photon decoposition mechanism that makes photon powered weapons disperce the photon energy into harmless light.

How'd they get there then? Well, I guess people could have come in obliterated all but a few and and made a civilization, and then the monsters started to become numberous again...
Either:
1) They have a duplicator machine (LOL)
or
2) They mate super fast
