Meteos: Puzzle game straight from the heavens
#1
Has anyone else picked this up yet. All I can say is that it's A-MA-ZING! The concept is like a crazy version of touch screen columns and puyo pop mixed together. It's disturbingly addictive and it's one of those great things from the DS that makes you think "I've never played anything like this before and I love it!". I've spent countless hours on it so far thanks to all the car traveling I've been doing. But if you haven't tried it yet, go out and do it now! With this and Kirby it looks like Nintendo is readying the arsenal that will leave the PSP in the dust.

It does look quite incredible! I'm greatly looking forward to the UK release.

Incidentally, Kisanzi, I haven't seen you in a while, it's good to know you're ok!

Well, the UK release was on friday, and I gladly snapped it up!

It's a wonderful game! Very addictive, with such a great puzzle mechanic. The great deal of unlockables and the design in general remind me of Super Smash Bros. Melée (even though the games are very different), which is not a bad thing at all!

The only shame is that I don't know how I'll find 3 other people with the game to try it with, as mult-card multiplayer looks extremely promising (you can try out similar modes against the computer, and even with AI it's a lot of fun!).

So... what exactly is the game about? Is it just like a 3D tetris or something? :S

No, it's not even 3d.. Tongue

It's rather hard to explain, but i'll give it a go!

Coloured squares, Meteos, rain down on the bottom screen. They can be moved up and down (only) with the stylus. When three or more blocks of the same colour/type are lined up horizontally or vertically, the blocks 'ignite' and launch upwards like a rocket, taking the meteos resting on them along. Depending on the amount of meteos on them though, they may not have enough power to clear the top of the bottom screen (which is the aim), and so you can boost them further with another group of matching meteos, another 'rocket'. There are a number of different planets (lots, I haven't unlocked even half of them yet!) all with different effects, and different gravity, subtly changing the game.

There are a number of different modes, but that is the general idea. A very original, fun, type of puzzle.

I'd highly recommend it, to you as well, Lee-Yoshi Tongue
