Hey guys and gals. I'm RiskBreaker, long time reader, first time writer
. Here is a little about me before my post so I have been proper introduced.
Playing Phantasy Star since... PS IV. I got EP 1 & 2 the moment it came out for the GC, unfortunately, I'm a reservist in the ARMY and I was deployed, so my online time was limited, but I loved what I was able to play. I got to about level 100 and was FSOD'd. I played alot offline trying to rebuild my character, I bought an ascii keyboard, kept on keeping on, and then I moved, thus halted all my PSO online time again for awhile. Now I'm back, I have EP 1 & 2 again, and I have EP 3, I'm in South Carolina with the Army for some training but I go back home in 10 days, at that time I'll get online again, and I'm hoping on seeing some of you guys around the servers. Anyways, on with what I've accumulated about PSO: PSU.
Please note, all information is only RUMORED, no actual information has been confirmed or denied, so do not hold me to this if something changes. Also I do speak/read/write Japanese, but the computers here at Fort Jackson don't have an IME, nor can I install one on these machines, thus I'm without being able to translate the PSU site properly. When I get home, I'll have all the information off the official site (What little is given).
Game Name: Phantasy Star Online 2: Phantasy Star Universe.
Online/Offline: Two different theories. It is beleived to be played online, similiar to PSO 1 & 2, however, the offline mode is beleived to have a possible NORMAL story to the game, which could mean... maybe the online characters are kept on their servers?
Game Genre: MMORPG. It doesn't seem as if they're going with a new style of game like C.A.R.D. Rev. It looks like they're going back to hack & slash leveling up.
Gameplay Style: This is really unknown, no detailed information has been given. Although Phantasy Star games have always been unique, I'm willing to bet, since the game revolves around a world, and not just parts that WERE populated, and the world looks as if it has major cities and populations, that the game is a free travel game, SIMILIAR to Final Fantasy XI, or Everquest. Rule of thumb though, they said it was an ACTION MMORPG, which means "twitch" controls. That's controls that basically mean PSO style, you hit the button, the character does the action, not you select from a menu, the character waits 20 seconds then does it. Also twitch controls give you the personal ability to dodge hits and move around. So think a world like FFXI, with gameplay like PSO. (All based on information I'VE put together, none of this is definitive).
Consoles: Definately for the GC it seems, that's what everyone reports, although I have heard that it will be available for all consoles also, so keep on hoping!
Character Saves: The way of the future for MMORPG's is characters on a server that you access when you go online. It makes the items/weapons hack proof, (even though you say there is no such thing). In essence, even if weapons or items were hacked, the character would be found as soon as the code to the item were changed server side, the character would be reported, account probably terminated, and a possible lawsuit for breaking the EULA. I think Blue Burst is just a little experiment in the art of server side character hosting, along with a little money making for Sonic Team. What do you think?
Character Transfer: I have read NOTHING on whether you can or can't transfer your characters like you did back on the DC with EP 1 to EP 2, but I sincerely doubt it, if the character is server side, then that would just introduce a whole new set of hacks to a game that is attempting to be hack free, also how much fun would it be if you came into the game level 200 already!? I mean c'mon...
Players Allowed Per Session: If I'm right, and you're traversing a world, not just stages and one part of a ship, the game will be "MM" not just "ORPG". In other words, there will be thousands of characters on a world at any given point, enabling a much wider array of RPG style gaming, and definately a better community experience. (Once again, just my opinion).
All the information here is based on information provided by screen shots, other players, various sites, etc. It may be my opinions, but tell me what you think, and we'll compare notes!
I hope all of you have a great day, and I hope to see you on Ragol!
[Edit]
I checked into the PSU website. I am horrible at Kanji, but I was able to translate a bit of the writing on the pic on the PSU site (the main one). The writing comes out in giberish 'cause this computer doesn't have a JP font. The kanji pre "RPG" translates into what we call a "Massively Multi-Player". Basically CONFIRMING online play without any doubt. Next to that is the game title. I can't translate all of the rest but it is just sayings, sorta' like what they have in english above "let the next..." etc. I'll ask my friends to help me with the kanji, anyways, just thought I'd let you know.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Osborn
