It's not like you're hurting anyone by meleeing. If you can cut it, why not? I mean, I'm not gonna melee if I'm having problems with the level; I start out with the Frozen Shooter and Spread Needle, and then I start to melee once I'm slightly comfortable in that level. The game becomes monotonous when you use the same weapon too often... and this is especially true for rangers because gun animations themselves are monotonous.

Even if you're online, you're not really detracting from the team depending on the situation. If you go meleeing against big monsters in multiplayer, yeah, that's kinda dumb... you should freeze them if possible. But ranger "duties" aren't... or at least, shouldn't be... a one-size-fits-all policy.[QUOTE]

I have something else to say... would they rather you be picking off the enemies far away and not getting hurt while they get beat down or would they like you to join in close up and both have equal exp chances and both of you get beat down? I'm a RAcast so whatever man.
