You can try this guide, it's for xbox but its the same config for any router connection:
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/start/connect/router/

to be honest as long as youre using rj45 'straight through' cable and have everything plugged in the right slots there shouldnt be anything major going wrong. Esnure your routers are set to dhcp mode so they can assign ips to each of its clients, this way you can just leave the gamecube setting on 'auto'. Let us know if this helps.
