No, the dying of the slimes only matters if you pipe back, if the Slime dies without you going back to Pioneer2, then it doesn't matter. You just got unlucky with the 87.5%, 1/2, or 1/22 droprate. (only Redria has the 1/22 for the Lavis Cannon)
