Yes, odd and even only apply to integers.
The irrational Pi was known way before Pythagoras, who lived a few hundred years BC. The Egyptians and Babylonians (a few thousand years BC) knew of it.

Really? 3 and 1/7 is hardly better than exactly 3.14. I'm studying Engineering, but we're lazy, see, so we always just use the pi button which gives pi to 12 significant figures. More than good enough.
